BYU Coach: NFL Interest In Zach Wilson Is High

Nov 20, 2020 9:24 AM

BYU quarterback Zach Wilson is having an outstanding season and is working his way up NFL draft boards.

Wilson is averaging of 11.4 yards per pass and a 75.1 percent completion rate with 22 touchdowns and only two interceptions.

The Deseret News reports that Wilson will "almost certainly" enter the 2021 NFL draft, and BYU quarterbacks coach Aaron Roderick said almost every team called him during BYU's bye week for information about Wilson.

"I think it was just about every team," said Roderick. "They make their own decisions about his play. That's their job. They've got scouts and evaluators and they are good at what they do and they make their own decisions about what they think of him as a player."

Dolphins Insist They're Not Auditioning Tua Tagovailoa

Nov 5, 2020 4:49 PM

Brian Flores clarified that the Miami Dolphins are not auditioning Tua Tagovailoa for the remainder of 2020 to figure out whether they want to select another quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft.

"There's a couple things out there, let's call it a source close to Dolphins thinking, saying that we are auditioning Tua. I'm just going to tell you about my thinking. We brought Tua here because we believe in him, same as all the other draft picks. We believe in developing players ... and improving players on a daily basis," Flores said. "That would be the opposite of giving someone a 10-game audition. That's just my thinking on that, just so everybody's clear."

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday that one factor that contributed to the Dolphins' decision to name Tagovailoa as their starting quarterback.

The Dolphins own the first and second round picks of the Houston Texans next April.

Dolphins Want To Test Tua Tagovailoa Well Ahead Of 2021 Draft

Nov 1, 2020 2:49 PM

One of the reasons why the Miami Dolphins made the decision to start Tua Tagovailoa as their starting quarterback was to have ample time to evaluate him before next year's draft.

The Dolphins own the first and second round picks of the Houston Texans in 2021, which could give them the opportunity to select a quarterback should they decide Tagovailoa is not their solution at the position long-term.

"That's definitely a part of it," one source close to the Dolphins' thinking told ESPN, regarding Miami's recent decision to replace popular veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick with Tagovailoa. "Whoever told you that is right."

Clemson's Trevor Lawrence, Ohio State's Justin Fields and North Dakota's Trey Lance are the three top quarterback prospects.

NFL Execs Confident Trevor Lawrence Will Enter 2021 Draft

Nov 1, 2020 2:45 PM

Multiple NFL executives expect Trevor Lawrence to leave Clemson for the 2021 NFL draft.

"I'd be shocked if he went back [to Clemson]," one source told ESPN.

"You have a better chance of winning the Boston Marathon than he does of going back to school," another source said.

"Any person in that stratosphere would go, and history tells me he goes out," a third source told ESPN.

Lawrence suggested he could remain at Clemson for his senior season in comments this week.

Dabo Swinney said two days later that he would "be surprised" if Lawrence, the projected No. 1 pick in the 2021 draft, is back with the Tigers next year.

Andrew Luck was the last prospective first overall pick to return to college despite having the opportunity to enter the draft early. Luck returned to Stanford for his redshirt junior season in 2011.

Matt Leinart also returned to USC for one extra season before entering the NFL in 2006.
