Colts View Michael Pittman, Jr. As 'Vincent Jackson-Like'

Apr 30, 2020 9:03 AM

The Indianapolis Colts didn't have a first-round pick last Thursday, which meant the No. 34 selection was their first.

They used the pick on Michael Pittman, Jr., who Chris Ballard said was "Vincent Jackson-like" in a pre-draft meeting.

"Every time I watch him, I like him better. He's big, he's a build-up-speed guy, he can finish on the deep ball, he wins 50-50 battles. I just think the guy's gonna be a good football player in this league," Ballard said of the wide receiver.

Jackson had had six 1,000-yard seasons and five seasons with at least seven touchdowns between 2008 and 2014.

Chargers Were Prepared To Select Tua Tagovailoa At No. 6

Apr 28, 2020 3:03 PM

The Los Angeles Chargers were prepared to select Tua Tagovailoa if Justin Herbert was already off the board.

"Yeah, we felt great about both guys," Tom Telesco said. "Well, actually, we felt great about all three quarterbacks that went in the top six. All three are going to be really good players in this league, and it's a comforting factor to know. We hope we don't pick sixth very often. If we do, I won't be making very many picks here. (So) in a pick this high, if there's a potential down-the-road franchise quarterback there that you like, you have to take him."

The Chargers decided not to trade up because of how close they had the quarterbacks on their board.

Lions Never Got 'Firm Offer' For Third Pick

Apr 24, 2020 9:53 AM

The Detroit Lions used the No. 3 pick on Thursday night and Bob Quinn says the team never received a significant offer for the selection.

Detroit selected cornerback Jeff Okudah.

"We had a lot of conversations," Quinn said. "We never got a firm offer. No team put anything on the table. Had multiple conversations with multiple teams. They were kind of fishing around and we were open for business as you guys know, and nothing was ever put out in front of us to evaluate."

Internet Outage Gave Broncos Brief Draft Night Scare

Apr 24, 2020 9:46 AM

Vic Fangio had a momentary technical issue during the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night.

Fangio said his internet service and cable service "went out" just minutes before the first round of the draft was set to begin.

"About five minutes before the draft started everything went out in my house," he said. "Not the power, all the internet, my TV wasn't working, everything froze up."

The Broncos coach said "luckily some Comcast guys came and they got it fixed in about five minutes."

Lamar Jackson Dubs LB Patrick Queen 'Ray Lewis, Jr.'

Apr 24, 2020 9:42 AM

Lamar Jackson has placed high expectations on Baltimore Ravens rookie Patrick Queen.

Baltimore used the No. 28 pick on Queen, a linebacker out of LSU.

After the Ravens made the pick, Jackson shouted, "Ray Lewis Jr.!" on Instagram Live.

Like Lewis, Queen fell to Baltimore in the bottom of the first round. Lewis was the No. 26 overall pick in 1996.

Asked about the comparison to Lewis, Queen said, "When you think about Ray Lewis, you think about an elite linebacker -- speed, physicality, aggression, dominance. I feel like I'm more mobile than he was. Not taking anything away from him, he was a great linebacker, probably the best to play. But I've got a lot to live up to. The bar is set high."
