Drew Brees Believes 80 Percent Completion Rate In Sustainable

Sep 28, 2018 8:12 AM

Through three games, Drew Brees has an 80.6% completion rate on his 129 passing attempts.

The NFL record over the course of a full season is 72%, which is held by Brees, who also leads the league in career percentage.

"I don't see why not," Brees said when asked if his current rate is sustainable. "Listen, it's not easy. ... It's identifying matchups, it's making sure you get positive plays and in just about every case, a completion is a positive play, right?"

Brees also owns the third, fourth, and ninth-best seasons in terms of accuracy.

Drew Brees Passes Brett Favre For Most Career Completions

Sep 24, 2018 9:25 AM

Drew Brees has now completed more passes than any player in NFL history.

Brees broke Brett Favre's record with his 6,301st career completion in the second quarter of Sunday's game between the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons.

"I hope there's a lot more coming, but I just think about all of the people that had a hand in that," Brees said. "A lot of hands have caught those passes, and a lot of guys have blocked to make those happen. They all are a part of this, absolutely."

Brees is also on track to set the record for career passing yards within the next few weeks.

He is now 417 yards away from Peyton Manning's mark of 71,940 career passing yards, which he is on pace to reach on Monday Night Football in Week 5.

Ravens Set Mark With TDs On First 12 Red Zone Trips

Sep 24, 2018 8:26 AM

The Baltimore Ravens have set an NFL record with touchdowns on each of their first 12 trips into the red zone this season.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, they are the first team in league history to do so.

"We've had a good mix," Joe Flacco said. "I think we've probably thrown the ball in six times and run the ball in six times. If you can do both of those things, especially when you get down tight inside the 5-yard line. ... That helps a lot. It takes a lot of pressure off your offense. We've got good playmakers, and we put a lot of pressure on the defense with the guys that we have out there."

The Ravens have seen seven different players score touchdowns in the red zone.

From 2013 to 2016, Baltimore scored touchdowns 50 percent of the time in the red zone (104-of-208), which ranked No. 30 in the NFL.

Kerryon Johnson Becomes Lions' First 100-Yard Rusher Since 2013

Sep 24, 2018 8:18 AM

Kerryon Johnson rushed for 101 yards in the Detroit Lions' win over the New England Patriots on Sunday night, breaking a streak that dated back to 2013.

The Lions hadn't had a 100-yard rusher since Thanksgiving 2013, when Reggie Bush ran for 117 yards.

The 70-game streak was the fourth-longest drought in NFL history. The rookie snapped it in just his third professional game.

"I think it was probably the moment I was drafted [I heard it], I can't remember for sure," Johnson said. "I think it was probably around that time. That was the first time I heard it. Obviously it wasn't the last.

"But it was the last time I really cared about it. Like I said, I came in ready to work, ready to run. We came in ready to work. We came in ready to run. And that's how we went through the offseason, that's how we went through fall camp, and that's how we went through the regular season."

Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay set an NFL record on Sunday, becoming the first undrafted free agent ever with 100-plus scrimmage yards in each of his first two games.

Lindsay had 14 carries for 107 yards on Sunday.

"He is a good football player, not only as a running back, but as a guy who covers kicks for us and as a guy who catches the football for us," Vance Joseph said. "He's the total package football player. He's been really impressive."

Lindsay has out-touched fellow rookie Royce Freeman 32-to-23 through Denver's first two games.
