Marcell Dareus Suspended One Game For Substance Abuse Violation

May 21, 2015 4:20 PM

Marcell Dareus has been suspended for the first game of the 2015 season for a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Dareus has become one of the NFL's best defensive tackles during his tenure with the Buffalo Bills.

"Last year, I made a mistake involving possession of a banned substance," Dareus said in a statement. "The NFL's discipline for this conduct is part of the drug policy, and I apologize to my family, my teammates, the entire Bills organization and Bills fans that I will miss one game as a result of my mistake. I will work intensely that week and will be extremely happy to contribute to a win in week two for the Bills."

Last May, Dareus was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also picked up that month for reckless driving.

NFLPA Files Motion To Hold NFL, Goodell In Contempt Of Court

May 20, 2015 12:41 PM

Eric Winston, president of the NFLPA, released the following statement as they file a motion to hold the NFL and Roger Goodell in contempt of court regarding the Adrian Peterson matter.

"The players filed a motion in Federal Court in the Adrian Peterson matter because the Commissioner and NFL have deliberately ignored both the Court's decision from eleven weeks ago and our repeated requests to comply with that order.

"On February 26th, the NFL was ordered to change their decision in the Peterson matter and reissue a ruling consistent with our collective bargaining agreement. The Union made multiple requests to the League office asking the arbitrator, who serves at the direction of the Commissioner, to comply with the law and avoid further litigation. Despite our attempts, they have done nothing and leave us no choice but to seek this motion.

"The delay tactics, inconsistencies and arbitrary decision making of the League has continued to hurt the rights of players, the credibility of the League office and the integrity of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. In the absence of any action by the NFL's governing board of owners, the players have acted to hold the NFL accountable to our players, the CBA and to the law."

Patriots Won't Appeal NFL's Punishment For Deflategate

May 19, 2015 3:02 PM

The New England Patriots will not appeal their punishment from the NFL for Deflategate.

The Patriots received a $1 million fine and the loss of a first-round pick in 2016 and a fourth-round selection in 2017.

"Although I might disagree with what is decided, I do have respect for the commissioner and believe that he's doing what he perceives to be in the best interest of the full 32," Robert Kraft said during a six-minute address to reporters. "So in that spirit I don't want to continue the rhetoric that's gone on for the past four months. I'm going to accept, reluctantly, what he has given to us and not continue this dialogue and rhetoric and we won't appeal."

Kraft remains clear that he supports the appeal of Tom Brady.

NFLPA Appeals Tom Brady's Suspension

May 14, 2015 8:49 PM

The NFL Players Association filed an appeal of Tom Brady's four-game suspension Thursday.

Brady was suspended without pay by the NFL on Monday for the first four games of the 2015 season stemming from his role in Deflategate.

"Given the NFL's history of inconsistency and arbitrary decisions in disciplinary matters, it is only fair that a neutral arbitrator hear this appeal," the union said in a release. "If Ted Wells and the NFL believe, as their public comments stated, that the evidence in their report is 'direct' and 'inculpatory,' then they should be confident enough to present their case before someone who is truly independent."

Brady's agent said Monday that he would appeal the suspension. The deadline to appeal was the end of the day Thursday. The Patriots, who were fined $1 million and lost two draft picks, have until May 21 to file an appeal of their penalties to the NFL.

NFL Clears Dolphins Of Tampering In Pursuit Of Ndamukong Suh

May 12, 2015 5:07 PM

The NFL has confirmed that the Miami Dolphins did not violate any rules against tampering in their pursuit of Ndamukong Suh.

The issue arose because reports of Suh’s impending deal with the Dolphins, including length and financial details, went public before the official start of free agency. Teams are permitted to speak to agents during a three-day “legal tampering” window, but are barred from agreeing to terms until free agency gets underway.
