Steelers Unsure If Roethlisberger's Suspension Will Be Reduced

The Steelers expect to go through most or all of training camp without knowing when quarterback Ben Roethlisberger can play again. Roethlisberger has been suspended six games by the NFL for violating the league's personal conduct policy. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said the suspension could be reduced by two games if Roethlisberger has no more behavioral issues and does all that is asked by the league. "Toward the end of training camp is the timetable to find out," Steelers president Art Rooney II said Tuesday.

NFL Suspends Ravens CB Two Games

Ravens backup cornerback Cary Williams has been suspended by the NFL for two games without pay for violating the league's personal conduct policy. Baltimore general manager Ozzie Newsome says the violation occurred while Williams was playing for the Titans. Williams was with Tennessee in 2008. "We were aware of this" before Baltimore signed Williams, Newsome said Thursday.

Seattle's Leroy Hill Suspended One Game

The NFL has suspended Seahawks linebacker Leroy Hill one game for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Hill will miss Seattle's season opener against San Francisco on Sept. 12. The suspension stems from Hill's arrested in January 2009 in Georgia for misdemeanor marijuana possession.

NFL Suspends Jolly For 2010

The NFL has suspended Packers defensive end Johnny Jolly without pay for the upcoming season for violating the league's substance abuse policy. The league has left open the possibility of suspending Jolly past the 2010 season as well. He will be eligible to apply for reinstatement after the Super Bowl. Jolly is facing drug charges in Houston after his July 2008 arrest outside a club for possession of at least 200 grams of codeine.

Chargers Confirm Jackson's 3-Game Suspension

The Chargers have confirmed that wide receiver Vincent Jackson has been suspended by the NFL for three games for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Jackson will be eligible to return to the active roster on Sept. 27. He is eligible to participate in training camp and exhibition games.

Falcons linebacker Robert James has been suspended for the first four games of the 2010 season for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances, according to a source. James will be eligible to return after the Falcons' Oct. 3 game against the 49ers.

LenDale White Suspended For Four Games

The NFL confirmed on Thursday that free-agent running back LenDale White has been suspended for four games for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. NFL.com first reported White's suspension in May, shortly after the Seahawks surprisingly released him.
