Seahawks Sign Alexander To One-Year Pact

May 17, 2014 10:57 PM

Tailback Shaun Alexander on Tuesday evening signed a one-year contract with the club and will report to camp on time later this week. The one-year deal is for $6.32 million, the same amount Alexander would have received had he signed the one-year qualifying offer for a "franchise" tailback, a concession that the Seahawks have been attempting to gain for months. But there is a fairly monumental caveat included in the contract: The deal stipulates that the Seahawks cannot designate Alexander a franchise player again at the end of the 2005 season. So unless the two sides reach a deal on an extension, which could be difficult given the acrimony that built up over the spring, Alexander would be an unrestricted free agent next spring and free to leave. The contract, which is totally guaranteed, also precludes the Seahawks from trading the five-year veteran during the season without his approval.

Recently Released Robinson Pleads Guilty To DUI

May 18, 2014 5:43 AM

Koren Robinson, whose recent brush with the law resulted in him being released from the Seattle Seahawks roster, pleaded guilty to Driving Under the Influence and was ordered to spend on day in a Kirkland jail. Robinson, 25, was arrested on May 6 in the Seattle suburb of Medina following a traffic stop. Court papers said Robinson had a blood-alcohol level of .191. He originally pleaded innocent to charges of reckless and drunken driving. The second charge of reckless driving was dismissed and Judge Albert Raines had the standard response to Robinson after the verdict was delivered. "I hope you spend the day reflecting on what is ahead of you rather than what is behind you," Raines told Robinson.

Seahawks Looking To Acquire Travis Henry

Nov 11, 2014 10:47 PM

Despite a report, the Seahawks did not confirm that they have recently talked to the Buffalo Bills about trading for running back Travis Henry. The purported acquisition makes some sense, but isn't likely to take place. Tennessee and Jacksonville are more likely destinations for Henry. The Seahawks, according to a report on ESPN.com, spoke to Bills executives about Henry after Seattle running back Shaun Alexander told The Times last week that he does not intend to sign the one-year franchise tender without having reached an agreement on a multiyear deal beforehand. Henry, 26, asked for a trade from the Bills soon after the 2004 season ended, having lost his starting job to Willis McGahee. Injury problems for Henry led to the decision to go with McGahee. The Seahawks were one of several teams that talked to the Bills about a trade for Henry before the draft in April. At that point, the Seahawks were trying to see what they could get in a trade involving Alexander.

No Progress On The Shaun Alexander Front

Aug 3, 2014 8:17 AM

The Seattle Seahawks have yet to make any progress with the leagues second-leading rusher Shaun Alexander. Alexander was given a franchise tag, a one-year extension worth $6.3 million for the upcoming season. However, Alexander is refusing to play unless he gets a long-term contract. The big test remains for Alexander: Is he willing to skip regular-season game checks worth about $370,000 apiece?

Boulware Will Have To Prove His Health First

May 18, 2014 6:33 AM

Linebacker Peter Boulware may have a workout this month for all the teams interested in him, but wary of his knee issues. The four-time Pro Bowl linebacker has had a variety of different knee and toe surgeries in the past. "It's obvious Pete is going to have to go out and show teams that he's healthy before they offer him a contract," acknowledged agent Roosevelt Barnes. "And if that's the case, then I'd rather have him do it one time, for everyone, rather than have to go through a series of these things. Like a come-one-come-all kind of thing. That's the way we're thinking now, if we can set it up at a time and place that works for everybody." The Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns and Seattle Seahawks are among his possible suitors.

Alexander On The Seahawks $6.32 Million Tender, ?Out Of The Question?

Jan 26, 2014 5:43 AM

Seattle Seahawks star running back Shaun Alexander is refusing to sign the team?s $6.32 million franchise tender, opting for a long term deal instead. "I'm pretty strong about my principles," the Seahawks Pro Bowl running back said yesterday at the Adonai Hood Classic basketball tournament at Seattle's Garfield High School. "We're all under the same understanding. It's not like a bitter thing. I've told them that I love playing for Seattle. To me, it's not about money, it's just about a principle." Falling just two yards short of the NFL rushing title last season, Alexander is not accepting the Seahawks franchise tag that was given to him last season to prevent him from becoming a free agent. "I told them three years ago that I love playing here and let's do something now. Let's meet," Alexander said. "It was just me and Mike [Holmgren]. There were no agents involved. I said, 'You know what? My wife's here. My family's here. I want to be here until I retire. It's really funny because back then I would have worked for peanuts. "Two Pro Bowls and 3,000 yards and 36 touchdowns later, now it's time to talk? And I'm like, 'Why would you do this?' So now it's just one of those things where I say, 'Let's do what's right.' I'm not trying to be evil or greedy or anything, let's just do what's right."
