The San Francisco 49ers hope to have a more productive offense built around Colin Kaepernick in 2015.

The 49ers promoted Geep Chryst to offensive coordinator this week.

"It's not fixing Kaepernick," Jed York said. "I think Kap is an unbelievable player. He's a young guy that continues to grow and mature, but we all do."

Greg Roman was offensive coordinator of the 49ers last season.

"But with Kap you got a guy in Geep Chryst who knows him better than anybody else," he said. "You have a great guy in Steve Logan that's coming in that's going to work with him on fundamentals and to put a system that's going to put Kap in the best position to make plays.

"How many quarterbacks in this league can run 90 yards for a touchdown? I can't think of many, but you have to put Kap in position where he can make those plays and put Kap in position where we can run the ball. We can throw the ball in ways that allows him to be successful and let him be the absolute stud that he can be on the field, and that's what you're going to see from us next year. Defenses are not going to want to play against us because you're not going to know where we're going to hit you."

Tom Gamble has returned to the San Francisco 49ers as the team's senior personnel executive.

Gamble’s return to the 49ers has been expected since Dec. 31, when the Philadelphia Eagles announced a mutual parting. Gamble had been the Eagles’ vice president of player personnel since February 2013.

Gamble formerly worked with the 49ers as director of player personnel.

“Tom is one of the most experienced, knowledgeable, and respected personnel men in the business,” Trent Baalke said in a statement. “He played an instrumental role in our personnel department from 2005-2012, and is well versed in our system having played a role in its development. This familiarity, along with his many strengths, will be tremendous assets as we prepare for free agency and the draft. It is great to have Tom back with the 49ers.”

The San Francisco 49ers are expected to hire Geep Chryst as offensive coordinator.

Chryst was previously quarterbacks coach of the 49ers.

The 49ers also considered Adam Gase, Mike Shanahan, Lane Kiffin and Rob Chudzinski for the job to replace Greg Roman.

The San Francisco 49ers continue to search for an offensive coordinator and Bob Bicknell has emerged as a candidate.

Bicknell has been wide receivers coach for the Philadelphia Eagles over the past two seasons.

Jim Tomsula and Bicknell coached in NFL Europe, but never on the same staff.

Bicknell has never been a coordinator in the NFL and is reportedly not interested in the job.

Rob Chudzinski has decided to remain with the Indianapolis Colts on a new contract and title.

Chudzinski will now be associate head coach.

Chudzinski was a prime candidate to become offensive coordinator of either the San Francisco 49ers or St. Louis Rams.

"We're excited to keep Chud in our family," Chuck Pagano said. "He's been a critical part of our operation and we're looking forward to sharing even more success in the future."

The San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams both figure to interview Rob Chudzinski for their offensive coordinator vacancies this week.

Chudzinski was with the Indianapolis Colts this season as "special assistant to the head coach" and they blocked inquiries to interview him.

Chudzinski has appeared to be the 49ers’ top candidate all along to take over the post Greg Roman held the past four seasons.

The 49ers' top in-house candidate is Geep Chryst.

Eric Mangini has been be hired by the San Francisco 49ers as defensive coordinator on a three-year contract.

Mangini has been with the 49ers as a special assistant over the past few seasons.

Mangini was a head coach with the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns, as well as a defensive coordinator with the New England Patriots.

Tony Sparano has been hired by the San Francisco 49ers as tight ends coach.

Sparano was most recently interim head coach of the Oakland Raiders.

Eric Mangini is a candidate for the San Francisco 49ers' defensive coordinator position.

Mangini served as the team’s tight ends coach last season and was an offensive consultant with the 49ers the year before that.

Vic Fangio has joined the Chicago Bears as defensive coordinator.

Fangio spent the past four seasons as defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers.

Fangio runs a 3-4 defense, which aligns with the defensive philosophy of John Fox.

Washington was also interested in agreeing to terms with Fangio.
