New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley admitted Thursday he does indeed have a high ankle sprain.

Barkley, who revealed the injury in an interview with Amazon, was hurt in Sunday's 31-28 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. It was initially believed to be an ordinary sprain.

A source told ESPN's Adam Schefter this week that Barkley was expected to miss three weeks.

Barkley told Amazon he will benefit from the 11 days between Thursday night and the Giants' Week 4 game against the Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 2.

Saquon Barkley has been ruled out for Week 3 by the New York Giants against the San Francisco 49ers. 

Barkley is expected to miss three weeks after suffering the injury in Week 2.

Without Barkley, the Giants are likely to use a running-back-by-committee approach led by Matt Breida, with Gary Brightwell and rookie Eric Gray.

The Giants have a quick turnaround with a game against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night.

When a reporter suggested that Barkley would miss time, Daboll cut him off.

"I wouldn't count on that," he said. "Not just yet."

Daboll said they would let the decision go up to Thursday. Barkley was projected as a "did not practice" on Monday and Tuesday, with the Giants only holding walk-throughs.

It was reported earlier in the week that Barkley would likely miss three weeks with the injury.

He will undergo an MRI on Monday in Arizona to determine the severity, but, after X-rays of Barkley’s ankle, the Giants are optimistic "it's an ordinary [sprain] rather than a high-ankle sprain," according to a report.

Barkley had 17 carries for 63 yards and a touchdown and caught six passes for 29 yards and a touchdown in Week 2.

Darren Waller doesn't believe that the hamstring injury that made him questionable for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys is cause for concern.

The New York Giants tight end will be on the field against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2.

"No, I'm playing," said Waller, who had three catches for 36 yards in his debut.

Waller practiced Thursday after having a "vet day" Wednesday. Brian Daboll said that was always part of the plan for Waller after several injury-plagued seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders.
