Brian Daboll Expresses 'Respect' For DC Wink Martindale

Nov 27, 2023 1:54 AM

New York Giants coach Brian Daboll responded to a report that his relationship with defensive coordinator Wink Martindale is in a "bad place" by rewarding him with a game ball following a defense-fueled 10-7 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.

Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported earlier in the day that the tension between the two is palpable to those in the building and it wouldn't be surprising if they eventually parted ways. Glazer even suggested it could happen during the season.

Daboll rejected the premise in his postgame news conference after Martindale's defense forced three turnovers and set up all 10 of the Giants' points.

Saquon Barkley On Being Loyal: 'Don't Mean Nothing'

Nov 17, 2023 8:51 AM

Coming off an offseason in which he failed to reach a long-term deal with the New York Giants, Saquon Barkley spoke about the lack of loyalty in the NFL these days.

The running back reported on the first day of training camp with an adjusted tag for one year at $10.1 million with approximately an additional $900K available in incentives.

Barkley, who leads the Giants with 568 rushing yards, was asked if being a good soldier and handling a huge workload would be viewed as a benefit when it came to getting a new contract (whether it be in New York or elsewhere) because of his loyalty to the organization.

"Loyalty means nothing," he said. "Loyalty, that don't mean nothing. No matter how loyal, no matter how committed you are, it's a business at the end of the day. That is something that I have learned."

Raiders Win In Antonio Pierce's Debut

Nov 6, 2023 12:56 AM

Antonio Pierce said he has had "butterflies" only three times in his professional football life -- before his first game as an NFL player in 2001, before the Super Bowl he played in for the New York Giants in 2008, and on Sunday, before his first game as interim coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.

So he went back to basics.

At the beginning of the work week, hours after he was promoted from linebackers coach in the wake of Josh McDaniels' Halloween night firing, Pierce handed out blank sheets of paper to Raiders players.

The thinking? To symbolize a fresh start. The result? The Raiders could use their finest penmanship to write "30-6," the final score of their win Sunday against the Giants, the NFL's largest margin of victory immediately following a midseason coaching change since 2015.

Giants Fear QB Daniel Jones Tore ACL

Nov 6, 2023 12:51 AM

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones left Sunday's 30-6 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in the first half because of a noncontact knee injury that could end his season.

The initial fear, sources told ESPN, is that Jones has a torn ACL in his right knee. An MRI has been scheduled for Monday to determine the full extent of the injury, but there is concern that this appears to be a long-term issue. Jones was making his return Sunday after missing the three previous games because of a neck injury.

"Tough. You never want your guys to go down," coach Brian Daboll said. "He's worked really hard to get back. It's unfortunate."
