Saquon Barkley said an epiphany led him to end his contract dispute with the New York Giants after seriously considering sitting out part of the season.

Barkley and the Giants signed a one-year, $10.1 million deal with close to an additional $1 million in available incentives. The deal also includes a $2 million up-front signing bonus.

"I can sit here and lie to you and be like, 'I wasn't disappointed,' or 'I wasn't this and that or a third.' That would just be a flat-out lie," Barkley said. "But I am mature enough to understand that it's a business. Understand that deals don't get done every year.

"Specific to my position, we didn't get a deal done. Me and my team felt we were in good faith trying to get a deal done. The Giants felt they were in good faith trying to get a deal done. That's life. Sometimes you don't come to an agreement. I had to come to a decision and, like I said, I had an epiphany. I had a mindset of what I was going to do. I changed my mind."

The New York Giants have signed left tackle Andrew Thomas to a five-year, $117.5 million contract extension.

Agent John Thornton told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Thomas' deal includes $67 million fully guaranteed at signing, a record for an offensive lineman.

The No. 4 overall selection in the 2020 draft, Thomas has appeared in 45 games, including 44 starts, over the last three seasons with the Giants.

The New York Giants and Saquon Barkley have agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth up to $11 million, according to sources.

The deal also includes a $2 million signing bonus.

Barkley's new deal is worth $10.1 million fully guaranteed, including the signing bonus. The $1 million in incentives includes an equal amount paid for 1,300 rushing yards, 11 touchdowns and 65 receptions.

The deal does not include a "no franchise tag" clause, according to sources, meaning the Giants can tag him again after this season.

The Giants and Barkley did not agree to a deal before the deadline for franchised players to agree to long-term contracts, meaning he would have had to play this season under the $10.091 million franchise tender.

The New York Giants have signed James Robinson and Cole Beasley.

Robinson gives the Giants depth at running back and insurance in case Saquon Barkley holds out. The Giants and Barkley are at a stalemate over a long-term contract and he's considering sitting out the entire 2023 season.

Barkley is one of centerpieces of the offense, with the No. 2 overall draft pick in 2018 running for 1,312 yards and 10 touchdowns to go with 57 catches for 338 yards receiving last season.

Saquon Barkley says he has considered not playing for the New York Giants this season, admitting during a recent interview that he "might have to take it to this level" amid his stalemate with the team over a long-term contract.

Barkley discussed his "leverage" in contract negotiations with the Giants during an appearance on "The Money Matters" podcast that was recorded before Monday's deadline for franchised players to agree to long-term deals.

Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants did not reach agreement on a long-term agreement.

Barkley is not expected report to training camp on time and is undecided on when he will join the Giants. 

Saquon Barkley is not looking for a market-setting contract offer with the New York Giants.

Christian McCaffrey earns a league-high $16.01 million per season.

The Giants applied the franchise tag to Barkley in March.

Saquon Barkley could miss Week 1 if he and the New York Giants don't agree to a long-term deal.

Barkley and the Giants have until 4 p.m. ET Monday to finalize a deal. If the deadline passes, Barkley can not sign a long-term deal until after the 2023 season.

The two sides remain at a stalemate.

Barkley has made it clear that the franchise tag, which comes with a $10.1 million salary this season, is undesirable. 

The last player to sit out an entire season was running back Le'Veon Bell in 2018.

Daniel Jones initially asked for $47 million annually in talks with the New York Giants this offseason, according to a report.

Jones hired new representation in February before he reached a multiyear agreement with the Giants.

He ended up receiving $40 million per year, but his new deal is basically a three-year, $37.5 million deal, given that the fourth year pays out $47.5 million under a team option.
