Daniel Jones Believes He Remains In Giants' Plans

Dec 22, 2021 3:07 PM

Daniel Jones believes he remains in the plans of the New York Giants.

Jones has been shut down for the remainder of 2021 due to a neck injury.

Jones will be entering the fourth year of his rookie contact next season, and the Giants have a decision to make this offseason on whether to exercise a fifth-year option.

"I've spoken to [coach] Joe [Judge] and we've had conversations about [being the starter next year]," Jones said. "Like I said, there are things I need to improve on. There are things he expects me to improve on moving forward. I understand that and obviously take that very seriously. That is kind of my approach."

Joe Judge: Giants Will Have Conversation About Starting Jake Fromm

Dec 20, 2021 8:23 AM

After Sunday's loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Joe Judge said the New York Giants will consider starting Jake Fromm at quarterback in Week 16.

Fromm replaced Mike Glennon after Glennon threw three interceptions and went 6-of-12 for 82 yards in his first NFL regular season action.

"We got to a point in the game where I wanted to see what Jake could do, point blank," Judge said. "We weren't doing enough moving the ball otherwise, so I wanted to make sure I had the chance to see Jake and that will obviously open up a conversation about what we’re going to do this week. We’ll talk about it as a staff and we’ll make the best decision for the team."

The Giants have yet to rule Daniel Jones out for the rest of the season.

Sterling Shepard Suffers Season-Ending Torn Achilles

Dec 20, 2021 8:09 AM

The New York Giants have lost Sterling Shepard to a torn Achilles.

Shepard suffered the injury during Sunday's 21-6 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

The wide receiver was writhing in pain as he toppled to the ground without contact while running a route with under two minutes left in the game.

"It's definitely tough," Saquon Barkley said. "He just sparks this team. He's a leader of this team. Just the energy he brings every single day, on the field, off the field. So anytime you see a guy go down, it's just a sad thing. But one thing I know about Shep, he's a fighter. It's a setback, but I know he's going to attack this rehab. ... Just a little setback, and the comeback is going to be something special."

Saquon Barkley Wants To Stay With Giants, Supports Joe Judge

Dec 15, 2021 8:32 AM

Saquon Barkley wants to be a part of the New York Giants getting back on track.

"I plan on being a big reason why we turn this thing around," Barkley said. "That's just my mindset, that's my thought process. When I got drafted here, I said I want to be here for the rest of my life. I was born in New York, I'm from Pennsylvania. I live an hour and some change from my parents' house. This is where I started my career, where I would love to finish my career. I know this thing is going to turn around and I would love to be a part of the reason it does."

The Giants already picked up the fifth-year option on Barkley's rookie contract, so he's signed for $7.2 million in 2022.

New York (4-9) has already secured their fifth straight losing season and eighth in nine years. Despite that, Barkley supports second-year coach Joe Judge.

"I think we've bought in," Barkley said. "We have the guys that are bought in. We work. We love football. We have guys who are committed to it. But that's everywhere in the NFL. That's why it's so hard to win in the NFL.

"We have just been very unfortunate as a team, as an organization, whether it's injuries or just the way we lost games. But it's all part of the building process and it's going to change at some point. And, when it does, it's going to be a beautiful story."
