The New York Giants have claimed Ryquell Armstead off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Armstead was waived by the Jaguars on Monday after he missed the entire 2020 season because of complications related to COVID-19.

The 24-year-old was twice placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list last season. He spent 19 days on the list the first time, then dealt with a groin injury and another illness before going back on the list. Players are placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list if they test positive for the virus or have been in close contact with someone who has.

The New York Giants have signed former first-round pick Kelvin Benjamin.

Benjamin has not played in the NFL since 2018. He worked primarily as a tight end at the tryout.

"In terms of Benjamin working a different position [Friday], we're going to work different guys at a variety of things right now," Joe Judge said. "He's a big guy. He's always been a big receiver. He'll work receiver. He's working a little bit flex tight end as well.

"I wouldn't really kind of, you know, pin him down to any one position at this point. We're going to use the weekend to move him around to different spots and see how it works out."

Kelvin Benjamin is expected to be among the tryout players at this week's rookie minicamp for the New York Giants, according to a report.

Benjamin, the 28th overall pick in 2014, was drafted by Dave Gettleman while he was with the Carolina Panthers.

The wide receiver hasn't caught a pass in a regular season game since 2018.

The New York Giants were reportedly all-in on drafting DeVonta Smith in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Those plans were ruined when the Philadelphia Eagles traded up to take Smith 10th overall, one pick ahead of the Giants.

"The Giants wanted DeVonta bad," an SEC defensive coordinator said. "They were pretty livid when Philly moved in front of them."

The New York Giants are confident that Daniel Jones will cement himself as their quarterback of the future this season.

The Giants added weapons for Jones this offseason -- signing Kenny Golladay in free agency and drafting Kadarius Toney in the first round.

"Obviously, this will be a big jump," Dave Gettleman said of his quarterback. "This is the year, Year 2 to Year 3, that Daniel should really make a major stride. We're looking forward to seeing him thrive."
