Dolphins Won't Punish GM For Dez Bryant Incident

Jul 30, 2014 9:15 PM

Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has decided not to discipline general manager Jeff Ireland for asking Dez Bryant, during a predraft interview, whether Bryant's mother was a prostitute. ``I have looked into the matter of Jeff Ireland and the questions asked of former Oklahoma State receiver Dez Bryant, and I have spoken to many people in and outside our organization who were directly and indirectly involved,'' Ross said in a statement. ``Jeff Ireland has apologized personally and publicly to Dez Bryant. We are going to take a hard look at our interview practices and we will make improvements that will allow us to get the important information we need about players in whom we are making a major investment, but without being insensitive. ``Jeff Ireland is a man of great capability and integrity, and he is well deserving of my continued confidence. I consider the matter closed.''

Dez Bryant Denies Telling GM His Father Was A Pimp

Oct 6, 2014 5:12 PM

Dez Bryant has denied that a question from Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland in a predraft interview asking if his mother was a prostitute was prompted by something Bryant said. "No, I didn't tell him my dad was a pimp," Bryant said in a text message to ESPN's Ed Werder on Thursday. A league source told ESPN.com's Matt Mosley details of the conversation first reported by SI.com earlier Friday were accurate. During the meeting, the source said, Ireland asked Bryant -- during a talk about Bryant's upbringing and relationship with family members --- what his father did for a living when Bryant was growing up, which apparently prompted this exchange: Bryant: "My dad was a pimp." Ireland: "What did your mom do [for a living]?" Bryant: "She worked for my dad." Ireland: "Your mom was a prostitute?" Bryant: "No, she wasn't a prostitute."

Miami's Ireland Apologizes To Bryant

Nov 23, 2014 8:23 AM

Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland has apologized to Cowboys rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant for asking whether his mother was a prostitute during a pre-draft visit. David Wells, Bryant's advisor, said Tuesday that the former Oklahoma State wide receiver was asked about his mother during a visit to the Dolphins in March. "My job is to find out as much information as possible about a player that I'm considering drafting. Sometimes that leads to asking in-depth questions," Ireland said Tuesday in a statement released by the Dolphins. "Having said that, I talked to Dez Bryant and told him I used poor judgment in one of the questions I asked him. I certainly meant no disrespect and apologized to him."

Miami's Henne Glad To Have Marshall

Oct 11, 2014 7:28 PM

Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne is looking forward to connecting with wide receiver Brandon Marshall. "He definitely brings a lot to the table," Henne said Friday. "It's great that we got a veteran receiver, because he'll come into this offense, teach the young guys and really explore and exploit some of the talents on our offense." Henne had a tall receiver in Braylon Edwards and Michigan and sees similarities in Marshall. "It's his ball in the air when you throw it up there," Henne said. "His size definitely stands out, and just the way he goes up and gets the ball. When he gets yards after catch he's not looking to run out of bounds, he's more going after the corners, because he's 6-foot-4 and a lot of guys are scared of him out there in the open field."
