Brandon Marshall Misses Practice Again
Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall didn't practice again Friday due to a hamstring injury.
It's unlikely that Marshall will travel with the Dolphins to Oakland to face the Raiders.
Marshall, the team leader in receptions (58) and yards (693), hasn't practiced all week because of the injury sustained last week against the Bears.
Dolphins Won't Announce Starting QB
Dolphins coach Tony Sparano won't announce the team's starting quarterback heading into Sunday's game against the Raiders.
Miami is deciding between the hobbled Chad Henne and Tyler Thigpen.
"When will Sparano announce the starting QB?> He won't. He thinks it gives Dolphins a competitive advantage. We'll see," Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel wrote on his Twitter page.
Marshall Admits To 'Boneheaded Move'
Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall has admitted to making a "boneheaded move" in Thursday night's loss to the Bears.
Marshall was flagged for taunting when he tossed the football to Bears quarterback Jay Cutler following a reception.
"I let a lot of people down," Marshall said. "We all took our turns in stalling our team, myself included. [I] dropped two balls and got a dumb penalty fooling around with Jay Cutler. That's not acceptable, especially in a game like that. We were all disappointed."
Marshall and Cutler were teammates in Denver.
"After the game we talked and there's nothing bad there," Marshall said. "That was a boneheaded move by me. It cost our team some yardage and I wish I can have that play back."
Miami Being Cautious With Henne?
Some believe that the Dolphins should be cautious with quarterback Chad Henne and place him on the injured reserve.
Miami is 5-5 and a long shot to make the playoffs with New England and New York excelling in the AFC East.
Henne injured his knee last Sunday and missed Thursday night's loss to Chicago.
Dolphins May Have To Shut Long Down
The Dolphins may have to shut down left tackle Jake Long for the remainder of the season.
Long suffered a dislocated shoulder against the Titans last Sunday and it left him ineffective against the Bears on Thursday night.
Long's performance was so troubling the Dolphins have debated shutting down the 2008 No. 1 pick for the season, according to a team source.
Cutler Instigated Marshall Into Penalty
Bears quarterback Jay Cutler knew what buttons to push Thursday night against the Dolphins, especially in regards to former Broncos teammate Brandon Marshall.
"Brandon's one of my good friends," Cutler said Friday on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "I just got him fired up before the game. I told him we were going to put someone over the top on him and limit him as much as possible.
"That frustrates him probably more than anything. He's such a competitor, he wants the ball on every play. Whenever teams go out of their way to shut him down, just as a sign of respect, it really gets to him. So I tried to fire him up as much as possible."
With 10 minutes left in the first half and the Bears leading 6-0, Marshall caught a short pass, made a nice move and gained 14 yards to the Miami 40.
He was knocked out of bounds at the Bears' sideline, saw Cutler and flipped him the ball. It drew a 15-yard penalty, and Miami had to punt three downs later.
"When he caught that ball, broke the tackle and hit the sideline, I think he was telling me he can still beat [the coverage] anyway," Cutler said.
Brandon Marshall Re-Injures Hamstring
Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall re-injured his hamstring in Thursday night's loss to the Bears.
Marshall left in the second quarter with the right hamstring injury.
He had three receptions for 41 yards before suffering the injury.
Swarming Bears Shutout Dolphins
Chicago's defense allowed only 187 yards and a single third-down conversion Thursday night, and the Bears won 16-0 to send the injury-ravaged Dolphins to their second home shutout in 40 years, according to an Associated Press report.
Fasano Signs Two-Year Deal With Miami
The Dolphins have signed tight end Anthony Fasano to a two-year, $7.75 million contract extension.
The contract includes a $2.1 million signing bonus, according to a league source.
Fasano has 25 receptions for 367 yards and three touchdowns this season.
Dolphins Contact JaMarcus Russell
With Chad Pennington and Chad Henne possibly out for the season, the Dolphins have reportedly contacted free-agent quarterback JaMarcus Russell.
According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the Dolphins have also contacted Patrick Ramsey and Todd Brandstater.
