Calvin Johnson Happy In Retirement, Isn't Thinking About Playing

Jun 26, 2016 8:35 AM

Calvin Johnson says his health was the main reason why he opted to retire with several productive years still likely ahead of him.

"I know everybody wants to know why I retired, but it's more so I put a lot into the game and it's taken a lot out of me and that's where I'm at right now," Johnson said. "I'm not getting into the specifics of the things that it has taken away, but it definitely feels good, I guess I could say for myself, to spend more time around my family, my son, just got married.

"Things are going good right now."

Johnson caught 731 passes for 11,619 yards and 83 touchdowns in his career.

"I'm not coming back," Johnson said. "You ain't gotta worry about that."

Matthew Stafford: Lions Tougher To Defend Without Calvin Johnson

Jun 22, 2016 1:08 PM

Matthew Stafford will miss throwing to Calvin Johnson, but he believes the Detroit Lions will be tougher to defend without the Pro Bowl wide receiver.

"I think we're going to do it a little bit differently than we have the in the past," Stafford said during an interview with SiriusXM Radio. "Obviously we used to feature Calvin, and everybody kind of got theirs after that. It's going to be, I think, tougher for defenses in a certain way in that they don't know who we're going to. There's no guy to key in on.

"We're probably just going to spread the ball around a bunch, and a bunch of guys will get a ton of catches and we'll be all right."

The Lions added Marvin Jones in free agency to offset Johnson's retirement.

Joique Bell Says He Has Multiple Offers On Table

Jun 6, 2016 11:27 AM

Joique Bell isn't currently on an NFL roster, but the running back says he has 2-3 offers on the table.

"Last time I checked, I had three offers on the table," Bell said. "I know two are still there. One might not be there anymore. We'll see what happens."

The Detroit Lions released Bell after four seasons in February. He said a few days after his release that he turned down an offer to return to the club.

We just negotiated something, and we couldn'€™t come to a conclusion," Bell said. "We both kind of walked away from the table, so to speak, but on good terms. We understand that it's all business. They did what they felt was best for the organization. I did what I felt was best for myself and my family."
