Matthew Stafford On $25M Contract Demand: 'News To Me'

Nov 17, 2016 8:03 AM

It was reported over the weekend that Matthew Stafford, who is signed through 2017, will seek $25 million annually in his next contract.

The figure would make him the NFL's highest-paid player. Andrew Luck signed an extension with a $24.6 million average annual value this past offseason.

On Wednesday, Stafford downplayed the report.

"That was news to me, to tell you the truth," Stafford said. "Hadn’t, obviously, had any thoughts of that in my mind, to tell you the truth. I don’t know where that came from or how it got out there, but I’m focused on our team, this season, playing well this week. That’s really all I care about."

Nov 14, 2016 3:38 PM

Matthew Stafford will seek an extension with the Detroit Lions this offseason at $25 million per season that would beat Aaron Rodgers' deal.

Stafford already has secured two massive deals and is signed through 2017. He is set to make $16.5 million next season.

Stafford has played extremely well at quarterback since Jim Bob Cooter was promoted to offensive coordinator.

Lions Want Golden Tate To Stop Flipping Into End Zone

Nov 8, 2016 4:08 PM

The Detroit Lions want Golden Tate to stop flipping into the end zone on potential scoring plays.

Tate flipped into the end zone on Sunday's game-winning score against the Minnesota Vikings in overtime.

"I certainly would rather have him do something else, like cross it the normal way with the ball tucked underneath your arm, nice and tight," Jim Caldwell said. "But Golden is Golden. He's going to have a little flair. But we'll be able to make an example of that because if that ball, obviously, gets knocked out, then we're all singing a little different tune."
