Lions Benched Reggie Bush Due To Weather, Not Fumble

May 30, 2014 1:03 PM

The Detroit Lions sat Reggie Bush late in their loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers due to the rain and sloppy field and not because of his fumble.

“Reggie in horse racing wouldn’t be called a mudder. He’s an explosively quick guy. He’s better on a fast track,” Jim Schwartz said.

Bush had 31 yards on 12 carries.

Stafford Sets Lions' All-Time Passing Yards Record

Oct 12, 2014 2:05 AM

Matthew Stafford set the Detroit Lions' record for all-time career passing yards.

Stafford found Calvin Johnson on a 79-yard touchdown score to move past Bobby Layne, who had 15,710 yards from 1950 to 1958.

Stafford also became the fourth-fastest player to throw 100 touchdowns.

"It's obviously, any time you break a record, it's a humbling experience," Stafford said recently. "It's not something I'm setting out to do every time I go out to a game or whatever it is.

"It's not like I'm going out there trying to break records. I'm trying to win a game. If I do so in the process, obviously I have a lot of respect for the history of this game and this franchise, too, so it's something that when and if it happens, I'm sure I'll reflect on it after the fact."

Stafford Overcomes Injury-Plagued Label With 40 Straight Starts

Jun 19, 2014 3:55 AM

Matthew Stafford had an injury-prone label early in his career when he missed 19 of his first 32 games with the Detroit Lions.

But Stafford has now made 40 consecutive starts at quarterback.

Stafford has remained in the lineup despite finger, hamstring and knee injuries in recent seasons.

"That speaks volumes to me," center Dominic Raiola said. "I have a lot of respect for guys who are able to stay on the field that much, because it's not easy to stay on the field. It means you're doing the right things, you're in shape, you're getting treatment. And on top of all that, you're tough as hell."
