Martin Mayhew enters this season with the Detroit Lions feeling a sense of urgency.

"Let me just say this," Mayhew said.

"When you win four games, you better have a sense of urgency about it. Certainly, I had a great sense of urgency about this offseason, but I wouldn't categorize it as not having a great sense of urgency in the previous offseasons. I just think we came into it with a great sense of urgency about getting better."

The Lions have one winning season in four years since Mayhew took over the full-time general manager role.

Darrius Heyward-Bey will reportedly visit the Detroit Lions on Wednesday.

Detroit has long been looking for a complement to star wide receiver Calvin Johnson.

Heyward-Bey was taken by the Oakland Raiders with the seventh overall pick in 2009.

Calvin Johnson and Ndamukong Suh have renegotiated their contracts with the Detroit Lions to create more cap space.

Suh's renegotiated deal created $7.68 million in cap room, while Johnson's minor adjustment created $3.5 million in cap space.

Johnson was scheduled to earn $25 million in cash compensation this season, including a $5 million base salary and a $20 million option bonus, and he will still earn that much money as the renegotiation took place after the Lions had already picked up the option bonus.

The Lions dropped Johnson's base salary down to $715,000, the league minimum for a player with six accrued seasons, and converted the remaining $4.285 million into a signing bonus that will be prorated over the next five seasons. 

Safety Louis Delmas has agreed to a two-year deal to re-sign with the Detroit Lions.

Delmas visited with the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday.

The Detroit Lions have have agreed upon a four-year deal with Reggie Bush.

Bush rushed for 2,072 yards and 12 touchdowns in two seasons with the Dolphins.

The Detroit Lions may have blue end zones at Ford Field for the 2013 season.

The Lions had blue end zones during their seasons at the Pontiac Silverdome, but they have been unpainted at Ford Field.
