Holmgren: Browns Made Offer For 1st Pick
Browns president Mike Holmgren says he made a last-ditch effort to acquire the No. 1 pick from the Rams prior to the start of the NFL Draft on Thursday night.
Holmgren says he made a phone call to St. Louis about 20 minutes prior to the draft.
The president said Saturday that he made the offer to Rams general manager Billy Devaney "at the limits of what I was willing to do."

Rams Work Out Bradford One More Time
The Rams appear to still be locked in on Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford even though he is unlikely to sign a contract before the NFL Draft.

Cleveland could make a significant offer for the first overall pick as they look for a franchise quarterback.
Browns, Rams Discuss Trade For Top Pick
Cleveland Browns general manager Tom Heckert says the team has had talks with the St. Louis Rams about moving up in the NFL draft to take quarterback Sam Bradford with the No. 1 overall pick.
Heckert said Thursday that the Browns, who have the No. 7 pick, have been "'playing a little phone tag" but said they have talked with the Rams, who are expected to select the Oklahoma quarterback.
Browns president Mike Holmgren warned that dealing for Bradford could be difficult, saying "you'd have to mortgage the ranch. In the real world, we're probably going to go in a different direction."
Claussen's Odds Of Going To Cleveland Have Increased
NFL Network draft expert Mike Mayock thinks the Browns should take Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen at No. 7 if they're sold on his character.
"I do think he has the physical skill-set to be a top 10 pick the draft, similar to [Jets rookie] Mark Sanchez," Mayock said on a conference call Wednesday. "The question is what kind of kid is he? If you buy into him, work ethic, toughness and leadership, there's no reason not to take him. He's every bit as talented as Sanchez."
Mayock said he thinks Clausen, who visited the Browns last week, is "in play as a potential consideration for the Browns at No. 7. He's more in play [there] than I would've thought a couple of weeks ago."
