Browns' GM Phil Savage strongly backed coach Romeo Crennel on Thursday, temporarily snuffing speculation the club was on the verge of another coaching change. "Romeo has the total support of (owner) Randy Lerner and myself," Savage said during a news conference. "He has the respect of the team. We believe in him."

Browns coach Romeo Crennel will handle any possible punishment for Braylon Edwards behind closed doors. On Monday, Edwards expressed embarrassment and remorse for his sideline tirade during the second half of Cleveland's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, the latest outburst by a player quickly building a troublesome track record.

Braylon Edwards, who on Wednesday questioned safety Brian Russell's jolting hit to Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson earlier this season, expressed regret Friday over his comments. "The bottom line is you never want to have an article like that, that big, especially on Thanksgiving," Edwards said. "I didn't know it was going to be that big of a deal. ... Things like that divide from within and that's something we don't want to do."

Browns running back Reuben Droughns was inactive for Sunday's game against the Steelers with a sprained right foot.
