Linebacker Brant Boyer and punter Derrick Frost were the two biggest names among the 13 players cut by the Browns on Sunday in the first roster trim to 65. While the roster stands at 74 currently, nine of the players have exemptions from NFL Europe. The other players are quarterback Lang Campbell, linebacker Sherrod Coates, offensive lineman Javiar Collins, linebacker Kevin Harrison, defensive lineman Corey Jackson, kicker Tyler Jones, defensive back James King, linebacker Justin Kurpeikis, receiver Lance Moore, tight end Keith Willis and offensive lineman Clint Stickdorn.

The Cleveland Browns officially gave wide receiver Andre Davis permission to seek a trade on Thursday. Davis has had a camp that coach Romeo Crennel describes as average which has helped the Browns in their decision. ``He doesn't know,'' Crennel said. ``He wonders, `Am I going to be here or not?' Then every little thing that happens, he starts to worry about.''

Cleveland Browns veteran cornerback Ray Mickens confirmed that he has agreed to contract terms with the Browns and will be at the Browns? 2:30 p.m. practice today provided he passes his physical. Mickens (5-8, 180) is a nine-year veteran of the Jets and played for Romeo Crennel there from 1997 to 1999. He said he agreed to a one-year deal, terms of which were undisclosed. "But it's a good deal," he said. "It's close to what I was making in New York. It wasn't the best offer, but it was definitely the best opportunity."

The Browns biggest problem since their return in 1999 has been offensive consistency. They have had poor offensive lines, running backs and quarterbacks that did not meet expectations, and a lackluster group of wide receivers. Their offensive rankings have been towards the bottom of the league every year. This year the Browns have one thing that they have never had before, successful experience.

Top pick Braylon Edwards signed a five-year deal with the Cleveland Browns on Thursday, effectively ending the longest contract dispute in the History of the new Browns. Slated to make as much as $40 million, Edwards did not report to camp as his agent Lamont Smith could not get a flight to Chicago Wednesday evening to seal the deal. "I'd say it was more difficult, but you seem to say that every year. The system is a tough one," Collins said.

The Cleveland Browns were quick to pickup offensive lineman Dave Yovanovits off of waivers after he was recently released from the Jets roster. Yovanovits, a seventh-round draft pick in 2003, spent the last two seasons with the Jets. He played in four games, mostly on special teams, in 2004.

The Cleveland Browns are withholding the bonus money owed to Kellen Winslow after the tight end sustained a season-ending injury in a May 1 motorcycle accident. However, one source says the Browns and Winslow are very close to a deal that would extend Winslow?s contract by one-year and pay him his bonus. "He doesn't get a 'mulligan' on the first breach of contract," said a source familiar with the negotiations. "[The team] can still come after that money. On the other hand, it offers him a chance to make back the bonus money he lost by breaching the contract the first time. It's very fair."
