Zombo Fined $7,500 For Hit On Cutler

Nov 14, 2014 9:06 AM

Frank Zombo says he was fined $7,500 by the NFL for his hit on Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler on Monday night. Zombo was penalized for roughing the passer after making contact with Cutler's helmet on the hit in the fourth quarter of a loss to the Bears. The penalty wiped out an interception by linebacker Nick Barnett and helped the Bears drive for a game-tying field goal.

Aromashodu Doesn't Want To Play Slot Receiver

Oct 21, 2014 1:12 AM

Earl Bennett took Devin Aromashodu's spot in Chicago's lineup against the Cowboys and caught five passes for 29 yards. That's not quite as productive as Aromashodu had been with 27 receptions for 353 yards and four touchdowns in his previous five games. Aromashodu doesn't want to play in the slot, according to sources. ''I don't know if we need to justify any of those things to anybody,'' Mike Martz said after practice. ''I would just say this, and we'll let this thing go: Devin is a bit of a specialist in that he doesn't play the slot, which we asked him to do in the opener. ''He's not comfortable in there; he's not familiar with it. All four of our other receivers do play the slot and the outside. Devin just plays the outside, so his opportunities to play are reduced dramatically because of his limited knowledge of what we do at that position. ''He's not a slot or nickel guy; he's outside. It has nothing to do with Devin's performance.''

Bears Focused On Containing Clay Matthews

Sep 12, 2014 5:29 PM

The Bears are going into their Monday night game against the Packers focusing on Clay Matthews, who has been dominant in the first two weeks. ?We?re still figuring that out,? coach Lovie Smith said Thursday. ?The two teams before, I guess you could say they never really did [contain Matthews], you know, with three sacks in both of those games. ?He?s a good football player, you start off with that. We?ll know where he is. Our guys realize who he is also. We?ll have a plan to hopefully keep him away from Jay [Cutler] most of the time.?
