Rishard Matthews Would Rather Quit Than Be Forced To Stand

Oct 13, 2017 7:37 PM

Rishard Matthews is fully committed to his decision to stay inside during the national anthem, stating that he would rather quit football than be forced to change his protest over social issues.

Matthews was asked on Twitter if he would continue to remain in the locker room during the anthem if the NFL created a rule requiring players to stand or face a penalty.

"No, I will be done playing football," the Tennessee Titans receiver responded.

He quickly deleted the tweet and was not available for reporters on Thursday.

Matthews, whose father served 23 years in the Marines and whose brother, another Marine, died in Afghanistan two years ago, has been vocal in his stance against racial injustice and police brutality.

Lack Of Familiarity With Offense Led Titans To Bypass Colin Kaepernick

Oct 4, 2017 9:54 PM

Mike Mularkey said familiarity was the biggest factor in the Tennessee Titans' decision to sign Brandon Weeden.

The Titans considered several quarterbacks but not Colin Kaepernick.

"I'm not aware if there was," Mularkey said of interest in Kaepernick. "I know he's not familiar with our offense. I know T.J. Yates had some experience with it in Atlanta and with us for a couple of weeks."

The Titans' front office makes decisions on who to bring in for workouts. Mularkey cited Weeden's time in Dallas with offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, who Mularkey pulled from to create his scheme, as a prime source of familiarity.

"As quickly as we could get somebody up to speed in a short amount of time, he had the advantage over everybody," said Mularkey, who said Weeden "threw the ball well" Wednesday. "Formationally and schematically, it's very similar."

Titans Workout Weeden, Barkley, McGloin, Yates

Oct 3, 2017 12:01 PM

The Tennessee Titans worked out Brandon Weeden, Matt Barkley, Matt McGloin and T.J. Yates with Marcus Mariota day-to-day with a hamstring injury.

The Titans didn't include Colin Kaepernick or Robert Griffin III in their workout despite their fit as a mobile quarterback similar to Mariota.

Matt Cassel is the only other quarterback on the Titans' roster while Tyler Ferguson is on their practice squad.
