Buccaneers Sticking With Ryan Fitzpatrick As Starter

Nov 5, 2018 12:26 PM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are sticking with Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback despite a 42-28 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The Buccaneers will face the Washington Redskins in Week 10. They benched Jameis Winston after a four-interception performance against the Cincinnati Bengals last week.

"Ryan's our starter next week," Dirk Koetter said. "Ryan had one [bad play] there in the first half -- an overthrow on that one interception that we'd like to have back -- but did a good job of leading us back."

Fitzpatrick rallied the Buccaneers from a 35-7 deficit, completing 24 of 40 passes for 243 yards and four touchdowns to make it 35-28 and a one-score game in the fourth quarter, but the comeback stalled.

Jameis Winston Hopes To Be Part Of Buccaneers' Future

Nov 2, 2018 11:13 AM

Jameis Winston hopes to remain part of the future for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers despite a season that has included a multi-game suspension and benching.

"Yeah, hopefully," Winston said when asked if he sees himself as a member of the team a year from now.

The quarterback was surprised by the team's decision to go with Ryan Fitzpatrick this week against the Carolina Panthers.

"I didn't expect it, but one thing about me [is that] I can be honest with myself in terms of playing on the field," he said. "Turnovers -- if you turn the ball over in college, high school -- it puts your team in a bad position to win and we need to win as a team, so I can definitely understood why Coach [Dirk] Koetter went with Fitz."

Winston threw four interceptions against the Cincinnati Bengals last week before he was pulled late in the third quarter.
