Morris Calls Out Winslow

Nov 10, 2014 9:33 PM

Raheem Morris criticized Kellen Winslow's effort during the first offensive series of Tampa Bay's 24-0 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday. The Bucs faced third-and-5 at their 35-yard line when Winslow caught a pass short of the first-down marker. Instead of turning upfield, Winslow ran horizontally toward the sideline and, although he tried to extend the ball forward with his arms, was tackled 1 yard short of the first down. Asked about the play, Morris expressed disappointment. "Should he have squared his shoulders and tried to get the first down? Yes. Yes. He has to. We all do. We all have to have that want-to," Morris said. "I think Aqib Talib should have picked off that pass in the first drive. Kellen Winslow should have gotten the first down on that third-and-5. Jeremy Zuttah shouldn't have jumped offsides on the opening drive. "I hate to call out names, but that's the reality of what we do. You have to see that stuff."

Freeman Could Be Starting In Tampa Soon

Jul 29, 2014 5:00 AM

Buccaneers rookie quarterback Josh Freeman hasn't thrown a pass yet, but could be on the field sooner rather than later. Tampa Bay is 0-2 heading into their Week 3 game with the New York Giants, and ESPN's Pat Yasinskas speculates that Freeman could supplant Byron Leftwich as the team's starter when they return from their game against the Patriots in London. That game will take place on Oct. 25, and the Buccaneers have a bye week following the trip. That means Freeman could make his first professional start on Nov. 8 at home against Green Bay.

Bucs' Ward To Start Against Old Team

Buccaneers running back Derrick Ward will start on Sunday against the Giants, his old team. Tampa Bay's Cadillac Williams (knee) and Earnest Graham (hamstring) are both on the team's injury report. Ward, who is averaging 4.5 yards per carry this season, signed in March after five years with the Giants. "Ward might get a full dose of his former teammates," Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris told the Tampa Tribune. "Caddy's knee was sore from the turf. He participated in practice today, but we'll have to wait and see about Sunday."

Matt Bryant Takes Shots At Buccaneers

Feb 11, 2014 3:24 PM

Matt Bryant took some shots at fellow kicker Mike Nugent on Thursday in a radio interview. Bryant also suggested that coach Raheem Morris and general manager Mark Dominik have been less than truthful, according to the St. Petersburg Times. "We pretty much go about our business. ... It's not like we're shutting the door on somebody's foot," said Bryant during an interview on WSUN-FM (97X). "But the other day, it dawned on me. He made some comment awhile back when he was asked why he would sign here, and he said he thought this was the best opportunity for him. "Did (Morris and Dominik) tell him something to make him think this was the best opportunity? Or did he look at a number of teams and single me out? If he singled me out, then he's out of his damn mind. If I would have been 100 percent healthy, like we do back home, you take somebody out behind the woodshed and kick their butt. But that hasn't been the case, so you go on with your business."
