Simeon Rice Calls Gruden 'A Scumbag'

Dec 14, 2014 2:29 AM

Former Buccaneers' defensive end Simeon Rice called former coach Jon Gruden a 'scumbag' in an interview with Sirius NFL Radio on Tuesday. "You get what you deserve," Rice said. "That's what Jon said. He got it now. Everybody gets what they deserve. . . . "You look at what he did when Chris [Simms] damn near died on the field; he wanted to release him right when he got injured. I get hurt, my shoulder's torn off the bone. This dude releases me. You know what I mean? I'm your guy. The list goes on. Keenan McCardell, that situation was a debacle. Keyshawn Johnson, another situation [that] was a debacle. Joey Galloway, which was his man, was in the dog house all year because he got injured, broke his ankle, or whatever. Brad Johnson, that situation was bad. Brings Jeff Garcia in here; oh, he's going to change things. I helped recruit him [and he] released me, kept Jeff, and then put him in the dog house. Gets rid of Brian Greise, brings him, starts a controversy. It was chaotic. I'm giving you facts." Rice didn't hold anything back. "How I feel personally? I could tell you that, too. I think he's a scumbag," Rice said. "I think he's a scumbag personally. That's when he's telling you one thing and... You know what he told me? ?Simeon, you'll be here in the next five years.' I got injured [and] this man's never said one word to me. I won a Super Bowl for you. I got 13 sacks, 12, 15 every year for you. I balled. I got injured, [and] you let me go like it was nothing."

Fans Buy 70,000 Tickets To 2009 Game In London

Oct 9, 2014 6:33 AM

The first 70,000 tickets for the NFL's third regular-season game in London are gone, with 20,000 sold in seven minutes. The Patriots will face the Buccaneers on Oct. 25 at Wembley Stadium. "We have been delighted with the way fans have got behind the game, especially considering the challenging economic climate," NFL UK managing director Alistair Kirkwood said in a statement. "The response is indicative of the must-see nature of our game and the place it has cemented in the UK sports calendar. "Now that people who signed up for our registry of interest have had an opportunity to buy, we are releasing some tickets for general sale. For this game to have sold even more quickly than the previous two NFL regular-season games in the UK is a testament to the support and loyalty of fans here in the UK and proof of a growing audience for the sport."

Glazer Says Fans Helped Fire Gruden

Oct 23, 2014 2:05 PM

Tampa Bay president Bryan Glazer admitted that fan discomfort played a role in the team's decision to fire coach Jon Gruden earlier this month. "Our fans are our stockholders. They're what we play for every week. They're the people in our stadium and who watch on TV," Glazer said during a recent interview. "This is what it's all about ? winning, and how they feel about the team. If they don't feel good at the team, something's wrong." Gruden was fired on Jan. 16, and replaced as head coach by Raheem Morris following a 9-7 season. "Not to speak for the fans, but I think you all know the sense that was out there. It was time for a change," Glazer added.

DeBartolo Would Love To Buy The Buccaneers

Apr 22, 2014 2:39 PM

Eddie DeBartolo, the former owner of the San Francisco 49ers, said he would buy the Tampa Bay Buccaneers if they were for sale. But DeBartolo says the Glazer family, which owns the Bucs and the Manchester United soccer club, has no plans to divest in their NFL team. "The Glazers are friends of mine, and I have no reason to believe the Bucs are for sale," DeBartolo told the Times Tuesday. "Tampa has been my home for the past nine years, and if the team was for sale, I would definitely be interested in putting together an ownership group to buy the Buccaneers. But I have no reason to believe they're for sale."

Glazers Got Bad Feedback From Veterans On Gruden

Sep 24, 2014 1:57 PM

A league source tells ProFootballTalk that the decision by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to fire coach Jon Gruden came after ownership spent a couple of weeks collecting feedback from players regarding Gruden. Per the source, many of the veterans were providing unflattering feedback as to their boss. ?He would say something to a player one day and the next do the total opposite,? the source said. ?When he would cut guys, he wasn?t man enough to talk with them, and guys thought that was cowardly.?
