Brandon Staley Says Chargers Need To 'Reset' After 2-4 Start

Oct 23, 2023 8:59 AM

The Los Angeles Chargers dropped to 2-4 with Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Before the 31-17 loss to the Chiefs, the Chargers had lost three games by a combined eight points.

"It's frustrating. I can't tell you why the season is starting this way, but it is," Brandon Staley said.

"It's no one's responsibility but mine. We've got a good football team and we need to reset as a football team. We need to reset. We've had two tough losses in a row but we've got a good football team. We've just got to make sure that we keep it simple, keep doing the little things well because this is a good group of guys. This is a good football team and we need to get back to work."

Justin Herbert Expects No Restrictions Against Cowboys

Oct 13, 2023 9:01 AM

Justin Herbert has a fractured left middle finger on his non-throwing hand, but the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback doesn't expect to have any restrictions against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night.

He added that he would "probably not" take any snaps from under center until the game.

"I think that's one of those things that you don't really want to put your hand in danger," Herbert said, adding that the Chargers wouldn't need to remove plays with him under center out of Monday's game plan.

Herbert fractured his finger in the third quarter of the Chargers' Week 4 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Austin Ekeler: '99 Percent Chance' Of Return On MNF

Oct 11, 2023 8:47 AM

Austin Ekeler says there is a "99% chance" he will play in the Los Angeles Chargers' Week 6 game against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night.

Ekeler hasn't played since suffering a high right ankle sprain in Week 1.

With no official team injury report Tuesday, Ekeler told reporters he was a full participant in practice, and he went through it without the ankle brace he had been sporting on his right ankle. The Chargers had a bye in Week 5.

"I feel good. I feel really good. I felt like I probably could've played during the bye week if I had a game then," Ekeler said. "... It's taken a little to get back just to being around football, reactive stuff, things like that. But it's something that we'll work into this week and be ready to go."

Patriots Reacquire CB J.C. Jackson From Chargers

Oct 5, 2023 8:04 AM

The New England Patriots have agreed to a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers for cornerback J.C. Jackson, according to sources.

The Patriots are sending a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Chargers, who will send Jackson and a 2025 seventh-round pick to New England.

The two teams are also reworking Jackson's remaining $9.33 million salary for 2023, with New England covering around $1.5 million and the Chargers covering the rest in a signing bonus, according to a report.

Jackson's contract, which runs through the 2026 season, stays intact otherwise.

The Patriots were in need of a cornerback after rookie Christian Gonzalez suffered a shoulder injury in Week 4.

Raiders' Jimmy Garoppolo Out vs. Chargers

Oct 1, 2023 1:07 AM

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will not play in Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium, as he remains in the NFL's concussion protocol and did not travel with the team, a source told ESPN on Saturday night.

With Garoppolo out, the Raiders will turn to either rookie Aidan O'Connell, a fourth-round draft pick who excelled in the preseason but has yet to be active for a regular-season game, or 15th-year veteran Brian Hoyer, who has not had an NFL start since Oct. 2, 2016, and has lost 12 straight starts.
