When asked about his job security on Wednesday, Brandon Staley said he never felt his job as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers was in jeopardy.
Staley has been often criticized and calls for him to be fired grew louder after the Chargers' historic playoff collapse against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
"I have a lot of confidence in how we do things here and what we've been able to accomplish and that's the truth," said Staley, who is 19-15 in two seasons with the Chargers.
"Everybody that's been around me on a day-to-day basis knows that. I am aware of the speculation ... but I was not worried about that because I know what goes on here on a day-to-day basis. I know what we have in our locker room. I know what's out on that field and I'm excited to keep going."
The Chargers (10-7) earned their first playoff berth since 2018, achieving double-digit wins for only the second time in 13 seasons.
The Los Angeles Chargers have parted ways with offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi.
Lombardi joined the Chargers as offensive coordinator under Brandon Staley in 2021.
With the announcement of Lombardi's departure, this implies Staley will remain as head coach.
The Los Angeles Chargers have clinched a playoff berth but won't rest players heading into Week 18's finale against the Denver Broncos.
The Chargers can clinch the No. 5 seed in the AFC playoffs.
"Our approach is definitely going to be to try to win this ball game and play as well as we can play heading into the playoffs," Brandon Staley said. "I think that there's certainly an advantage to being the 5-seed, from where I stand."
Staley left open the possibility that some players might not be available on a case-by-case basis because of injuries but expressed no intent to rest players Sunday.
"Going into the playoffs, you've got to be playing football to get to where you want to go," Staley said. "So we're going to try and maximize our group heading into the playoffs, that's for sure."
