Diontae Johnson, Minkah Fitzpatrick Got Into Heated Argument

Nov 25, 2023 5:19 PM

Diontae Johnson's on-field frustration last Sunday in Cleveland continued after the game in the Pittsburgh Steelers' locker room, where he got into a heated argument with teammate Minkah Fitzpatrick before Cameron Heyward and T.J. Watt broke up the altercation and delivered a message that the team needed to stick together, league sources told ESPN.

Order eventually was restored in Pittsburgh's locker room, but the argument between two of the team's star players left a mark going forward on the Steelers, who fired offensive coordinator Matt Canada two days later.

Najee Harris 'Tired' Of Steelers' Offensive Struggles

Nov 20, 2023 7:46 AM

Najee Harris expressed frustration about his performance and the Pittsburgh Steelers' offensive inconsistencies in the wake of Sunday's 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

"There's just a lot of stuff that just goes around that you guys don't see," he said. "I guess I'm trying to say it's just, I'm just at a point where I'm just tired of this s---."

Harris' tone was a shift to the rhetoric he used earlier in the season when he defended the playcalling and implored the offense to execute better.

Harris was asked whether the team's 6-4 record was encouraging despite the offensive struggles.

"You could do two things," he said. "You could look at the record and say, 'OK, we're still good right now.' Or we could look at the record and be like, 'If we keep playing this type of football, how long is that s--- going to last?' I look at it like, 'How long that s--- going to last?' Y'all could look at it like it's a good record, but I mean it's the NFL. Winning how we did, it's not going to get us nowhere."

Mike Tomlin Calls George Pickens' Frustrations 'Pebble In My Shoe'

Nov 8, 2023 8:08 AM

George Pickens was frustrated during the Pittsburgh Steelers' victory over the Tennessee Titans last Thursday, a game in which he caught two passes for -1 yards.

After back-to-back 100-yard receiving games, Pickens has a total of three catches in Pittsburgh's last two games.

Asked if Pickens has expressed frustration to him, Mike Tomlin laughed.

"Heck yeah, man," Tomlin said. "He expresses frustration all the time. He wants to be significant. He wants to be a reason why we're successful. Y'all don't begrudge that. I want guys who want the football. I want guys who want to be central reasons why we're successful and so that's a nonissue, to be quite honest with you."

Tomlin dismissed the idea of any trouble brewing with the receiver when he was asked how he coaches young players like Pickens through adversity.

"Like breathing, it's easy," Tomlin said. "I know it's a cute story for you guys, but it is a pebble in my shoe, to be quite honest with you, in terms of the things that I have to do in an effort to get this group ready to play. This week our focus is on the Green Bay Packers and what we're all going to do in this football game, and I can't state it any plainer than that. It's like reality television, the way you guys follow social media and write stories about it."

Steelers' Joey Porter, Jr. Requested To Shadow DeAndre Hopkins

Nov 3, 2023 8:52 AM

Joey Porter, Jr. told reporters after the Pittsburgh Steelers' 20-16 win over the Tennessee Titans on Thursday night that he requested to shadow DeAndre Hopkins.

"On Tuesday, I went to Coach T (Tomlin) and told him, 'I want 10,'" the rookie cornerback said.

"That's what I was looking for. I don't really hide from nothing, so I was like, 'That's the matchup I want, that's the matchup I need.' (Coach) didn't really say yes on Tuesday. He was like, 'We going to think about it' because they was like, 'That's kind of crazy.' But throughout the week, they was like, 'Alright, we going to let you get 10 on some reps in,' and then throughout the game, it was like 'you just go where 10 is at.' "

Porter lined up on Hopkins on 72.2 percent of the wideout's routes (26 of 36), per Next Gen Stats, and allowed one reception for 17 yards on five targets. Hopkins finished with four catches for 60 yards.
