Evan Neal Apologizes To Giants Fans: 'I Am Wrong For Lashing Out'

Oct 5, 2023 8:14 AM

New York Giants right tackle Evan Neal is walking back his criticism of the team's fans after telling them to  "boo louder," among other things, in an interview.

Neal, the No. 7 overall pick in 2022, was part of a Giants offensive line that allowed 11 sacks in a 24-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night.

At halftime, he reacted to the boos from the home fans by gesturing sarcastically for them to bring more of the discontent.

"They were booing us, so I said, 'Boo louder!'" Neal told NJ Advance Media.

"Why would a lion concern himself with the opinion of a sheep? ... The person that's commenting on my performance, what does he do?" Neal added. "Flip hot dogs and hamburgers somewhere?"

Neal also said in the interview that the boos that showered the Giants showed that some of the fans are "fair-weather" and "bandwagoners."

Neal later apologized for his comments in a note posted to X, on Wednesday night, writing, "I am wrong for lashing out at the fans who are just as passionate and frustrated as I am. I let my frustrations in my play + desire to win get the best of me. I had no right to make light of anyone's job and I deeply regret the things I said.

"We are working day in and day out to grow as a team and this was an unnecessary distraction. I apologize."

Geno Smith Rips Giants LB For 'Dirty Play' That Injured Knee

Oct 3, 2023 8:33 AM

Geno Smith ripped New York Giants linebacker Isaiah Simmons for what he called a "dirty play" in the Seattle Seahawks' 24-3 victory on Monday night.

Simmons tackled Smith near the sideline in the second quarter. The quarterback injured his knee on the play. He remained in the game for one more play before getting attended to in the medical tent and missing the next two series.

"A dirty play. Dirty play," Smith told ESPN's Lisa Salters. "You guys can see it. It was a dirty play. It's no place in this sport for that and hopefully something happens, but other than that, the grace of God allowed me to come back into this game and I'm happy to be back out there."

Simmons says he was just trying to make a tackle. Smith was running for yards after catching his own pass.

"I really don't got much to say about it," Simmons said. "We playing football. He's mad he got hit? What do most quarterbacks do when they don't want to get hit? They go down. I don't really know what else to tell him about that."
