Giants' Kiwanuka Breaks Leg In Victory

Sep 26, 2014 8:20 PM

New York Giants' linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka broke his left leg Sunday against the Detroit Lions, and running back Brandon Jacobs left the game with a hamstring injury. X-rays revealed Kiwanuka broke his fibula. Late in the third quarter Jacobs limped off the field while trying to keep weight off his left leg. He did not return. Kiwanuka was hurt when teammate Osi Umenyiora rolled into him while making a tackle on the second play of the game. He was helped off the field, keeping his left foot off the ground and was later taken toward the locker room on a cart.

The Giants (6-3) and the Lions (6-3) will play to determine the third-best record in the NFC behind Dallas and Green Bay, both 8-1.

Burress' Ankle Problem Getting Worse

Jun 1, 2014 4:06 PM

The news is ominous regarding Plaxico Burress and his sprained right ankle. Not only is the injury not getting any better it's getting worse, and the likelihood of any improvement in the final seven games of the season is not high. "Don't feel good right now, that's for sure," Burress said yesterday. Burress initially sprained the ankle early in training camp but aggravated the problem in the Sept. 16 loss to the Packers. The Giants managed the injury by keeping Burress out of practice, and the results were more than acceptabl, as Burress ranked among the league leaders in receptions and had eight touchdown catches in the first six games. The hope was the bye week would help strengthen the ankle, but the rest worked no wonders. He had just four catches for a mere 24 yards in the 31-20 loss to the Cowboys and was shut out in the second half. "I had a bye week, and it really didn't change too much," Burress said. "I'll be glad when it's all over so I can rest it and get it back healthy."

Giants' Burress Questionable Vs. Cowboys

Jun 1, 2014 4:05 PM

New York Giants' wide receiver Plaxico Burress did not practice Friday and was listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys. Burress has not taken part in practice for most of the season while he contends with a nagging right ankle injury he sustained in training camp. He made a rare appearance on Wednesday but did not practice on Thursday. "After any time he works he might be sore, but I don't think it will be an issue," Giants' coach Tom Coughlin said Friday. Despite the injury, Burress leads the Giants with 37 receptions and eight touchdowns this season.
