Coughlin Fires Back At Tiki
Tom Coughlin has one regret about Tiki Barber: that he couldn't convince the Giants running back to keep his opinions out of the public spotlight.
On Friday, the Giants coach told reporters during the NFL's annual scouting combine he wished Barber hadn't used the media to voice his strong opinions and wasn't sure why Barber blamed the coaching staff for pushing him into retirement.

Tiki: Coughlin's Demands Pushed Retirement
Tiki Barber, who will work on NBC's "Today Show" and on the network's Sunday night football coverage, said his problems with New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin had "started to take its toll on me" and that it was an "act of God' that the physical demands Coughlin placed on him did not result in serious injuries.
"Coach Coughlin is very hard-nosed, and I didn't get a lot of time off, couldn't sit down and rest myself, and so it was a constant grind -- a physical grind on me that started to take its toll," Barber told reporters Tuesday after his introduction as the newest correspondent of the "Today Show."
"The grind took its toll on me and really forced me to start thinking about what I wanted to do next. And that's not a bad thing. That's a good thing, for me at least. Maybe not for the Giants, because they lose one of their great players, but for me, it is," Barber said.
He spurned offers from Fox and ABC/Disney to take the NBC job.
"My dream has always been to be on the 'Today Show,' " Barber said.

Tiki And Giants Make Retirement Official
New York Giants running back Tiki Barber officially sent the NFL notice of his retirement the morning of Feb. 12. In a letter faxed to the league office at 11 a.m. ET, he put to rest any rumors or hopes that he would be returning to the league for the 2007 season.
"All along I've been firm in what I said, that this would be my final season in the NFL," Barber said. "I have had a wonderful 10-year career. I have a lot of great memories, I've made a ton of lifelong friends and I will always think of my NFL career fondly. But now it's time to move on to the next stage of my life."
Barber's retirement was a front page story back in October when the news first came out, but many people still wondered if he was truly hanging up his cleats.
"This should set aside any thoughts of a comeback," said Barber. "The next stage of my life is about to begin and I'm truly excited about it."
Tiki Plans To Stay Busy After Retirement
Tiki Barber will end his football career much like it began when he was 8 years old -- with a wide grin and as teammates with his twin brother.
The Pro Bowl on Saturday will be the final game for Barber, who is retiring after 10 seasons with the Giants. His brother Ronde, from the Buccaneers, is a cornerback on the NFC team.
"It's like a family vacation paid for by the NFL," said Barber, who goes out as the NFL's 17th leading rusher with 10,449 yards.
