Dolphins Acquire Julius Thomas From Jaguars For Branden Albert

Feb 21, 2017 4:44 PM

The Miami Dolphins have acquired Julius Thomas and a 2018 first round pick from the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for Branden Albert and a 2017 seventh round pick.

Thomas also will restructure his contract upon completion of the trade. He is expected to be in Miami on Tuesday to meet with the Dolphins.

With the acquisition of Thomas, Miami has filled a major need at tight end. Former starters Jordan Cameron and Dion Sims suffered through injuries and inconsistency, and both will be unrestricted free agents in March.

Thomas worked with Adam Gase when both were with the Denver Broncos.

Cameron Wake Signs Two-Year, $19M Extension With Dolphins

Feb 20, 2017 8:48 PM

The Miami Dolphins and Cameron Wake have agreed upon a two-year extension worth $19 million with $11 million guaranteed.

Wake overcame adversity last year by bouncing back from a season-ending Achilles injury in 2015 to lead the Dolphins with 11.5 sacks. He made his fifth career Pro Bowl as a result and is one of Miami's emotional leaders.

Miami cleared cap room earlier this week with the release of former defensive linemen Mario Williams and Earl Mitchell.

Dolphins May Not Release Branden Albert After All

Feb 17, 2017 6:38 AM

It was reported on Thursday that the Miami Dolphins would cut Branden Albert, but they appear to be backtracking on the decision.

The Dolphins may have realized that there is a trade market for Albert.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald writes that "there is sudden and significant interest from at least one and perhaps other teams in acquiring Albert."

Albert is due to make $8.875 million in 2017, and he is signed through 2018.

Byron Maxwell: Miami's Secondary Can Be Legion Of Boom

Feb 13, 2017 9:26 AM

The Miami Dolphins watched Antonio Brown torch their secondary in a Wild Card loss this postseason, but that hasn't left Byron Maxwell without confidence about the unit.

"We can be talked about how they talked about us in Seattle," said Maxwell, who was part of the Legion of Boom. "We've just got to find a nickname.

"We've got to run with it. But we've got to put it on the field first. We definitely have the making of something -- we can be something great."

Miami's defensive backs suffered a series of injuries this past season -- Maxwell missed the final three games with an ankle injury; promising safety Isa Abdul-Quddus missed the final two with a neck injury; and Reshad Jones was sidelined for half the season with a shoulder injury.
