The Colts announced Tuesday that Ron Meeks, their defensive coordinator for the last seven years, has resigned.
The move will allow new head coach Jim Caldwell to hire his own coordinator as he moves the team's focus away from the Tampa 2 defense and onto overall speed.

Dungy Retires, Colts Name Caldwell New Head Coach
On Monday, Tony Dungy began the transition from head coach to full-time dad and devoted volunteer by announcing his retirement after seven years leading the Colts, according to an Associated Press report.
?We just felt this was the right time,? Dungy said. ?Don?t shed any tears for me. I got to live a dream most people don?t get to live.?
The move triggered a succession plan put in place a year ago, making Jim Caldwell, the associate head coach, Dungy?s replacement.
Sources: Dungy Will Step Down
Tony Dungy is stepping down as head coach of the Colts, at least that's what he's telling those inside the team headquarters, sources told FOXSports.com.
While the team has scheduled a 5 p.m. press conference, Dungy is walking around the team's complex saying goodbye to players and team employees and informing them that the transition should be a smooth one for new coach Jim Caldwell.
According to one source, Dungy explained that he has talked it over with his family and they believed this was the proper time to step down, while the Colts nucleus was still intact.
Second Witness Saw Harrison With Gun?
A second victim from the April 29 shooting that Marvin Harrison was charged in claimed he saw the Colts' wide receiver gripping a gun during the altercation.
The statement by Robert Nixon would apparently corroborate the statement of Dwight Dixon, another shooting victim, and contradict Harrison, who admits that he was in a fistfight with Dixon but insists he was unarmed.
Dungy Will Decide On Future By Monday
Indianapolis head coach Tony Dungy told ESPN that he plans to decide whether or not he'll return to coach the team next season by Monday.
The decision will likely come down to family.
Dungy, whose Colts lost to the Chargers in the playoffs after a 12-4 mark this season, has said he just has to decide whether commuting from Indianapolis to see his wife and children in Florida is worth it.

DA Unable To Press Charges Vs. Harrison
A gun owned by Colts star Marvin Harrison was used in an April shooting in Philadelphia, but investigators still can't determine who pulled the trigger.
Five bullet casings found at the shooting scene came from Harrison's weapon, but investigators reportedly have conflicting witness accounts of who fired it.
Source: DA To Announce Harrison Results
Philadelphia detectives reportedly met with the city's district attorney's office a month ago to present their final evidence relating to an April 29 shooting outside a business owned by Colts' Marvin Harrison that injured three people.
Police detectives working on the case have been pressing the district attorney for months to bring the investigation to a close, but they recently concluded that the district attorney was not prepared to act until after the end of Harrison's NFL season.
Dungy Ready To Think About Future
Colts coach Tony Dungy will spend the week contemplating whether he wants to continue coaching or retire to spend more time with his family.
"There are family issues and other things you'd like to do," Dungy said Sunday. "But the bottom line is we have a fun team to coach. We have some great players, we have a team I know can win, and I still enjoy it. So we'll try to balance those two and see what happens."
A decision isn't expected to be announced publicly until next week.
