Jadeveon Clowney Gets $1M To Settle Option Dispute

Jan 9, 2019 8:18 AM

Jadeveon Clowney was paid a bonus of $1.005 million on the second to last day of the regular season.

The Houston Texans paid out the bonus as part of a resolution over a dispute of which position he should have been listed as playing under his fifth-year option, according to a source.

The option, which is built into the contracts of all players selected in the first round, pays players based on their position and draft slot.

Although details are unclear, Clowney likely contended he should have been designated as a defensive end and not a linebacker, as a defensive end on the fifth-year option was entitled to larger total pay in 2018.

DeAndre Hopkins Donating Game Check To Shooting Victim's Family

Jan 4, 2019 8:34 AM

DeAndre Hopkins will donate his playoff check to the family of a 7-year-old Houston-area girl killed in a drive-by shooting Sunday.

Jazmine Barnes was killed when a pickup truck pulled up next to the car she was in and started shooting. The Harris County Sheriff's Office said they believed the shooting was random and they have not identified the gunman.

Hopkins will earn $29,000 for Saturday's game against the Indianapolis Colts.

"You hate to hear what happened," Hopkins said. "The city of Houston is always supportive of me, of this team, so I felt in my heart that it was only right that I give back to those who are down. Man, it's a tough situation what happened. It's tough man. What I can do ... that's nothing. That won't bring back a person. I'm not trying to make it about me or anything like that. It's the least I could do."
