Danny Trevathan Suspended Two Games For Hit On Davante Adams

Oct 2, 2017 12:53 PM

The NFL has suspended Danny Trevathan for two games without pay for his hit on Davante Adams.

The NFL said Trevathan violated Rule 12, Section 2, Article 6: "There shall be no unnecessary roughness. This shall include, but will not be limited to: (i) using any part of a player's helmet or facemask to butt, spear, or ram an opponent violently on unnecessarily."

Adams was taken off the field on a stretcher.

Trevathan was called for an unnecessary roughness penalty but was not ejected from the 35-14 Bears loss.

"I regret the level I hit him at," Trevathan said after the game. "But you got to understand I had momentum, and I was just trying to make a play."

NFLPA Argues No Irreparable Harm If Ezekiel Elliott Plays

Sep 16, 2017 7:22 PM

The NFLPA argued that the NFL would not endure irreparable harm if Ezekiel Elliott continues to play while his six-game suspension plays out in the courts.

The NFLPA made its argument through a legal filing Saturday with the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, saying Elliott "stands to lose nearly half a season in a career that is notoriously short and precarious, and competitive opportunities are irretrievable once lost."

On Friday, the NFL asked the appeals court to overrule the Texas federal judge who granted a preliminary injunction of Elliott's suspension. The league is seeking a decision as early as Tuesday and as late as Sept. 26.

The NFL ultimately wants to get the case moved from Texas to the Southern District of New York. That was the venue for the league's successful appeal after a federal judge had overturned Tom Brady's four-game suspension in the Deflategate case.

The NFL believed Elliott used "physical force" three times in a span of five days in a Columbus, Ohio, apartment, resulting in injuries to Tiffany Thompson's face, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, wrists, hips and knees.

NFL Suspends Josh Brown For Six Games

Sep 8, 2017 9:16 AM

The NFL has suspended Josh Brown for another six games for domestic violence accusations.

Brown severed a one-game suspension at the start of the 2016 season.

"We reopened the investigation based on new info," the league texted to ESPN on Friday. "Concluded there was a violation of our personal conduct policy and imposed 6 game suspension which he accepted without appeal."

The announcement comes on the same day that Ezekiel Elliott is waiting to hear from a U.S. District Court judge in Texas whether he will be granted a temporary restraining order that would allow him to continue to play this season.

"Timing has nothing to do with Zeke and made no sense to hold this until Zeke was complete," the league texted to ESPN.

Brown remains unsigned after the New York Giants released him in October.

The Giants signed Brown to a two-year, $4 million deal in April 2016 despite knowing he was under investigation for domestic abuse.

Arbitrator Harold Henderson upheld the six-game suspension on Tuesday.

Elliott, however, will be allowed to play in Week 1.

Elliott was away from the team last week, but took part in meetings and a walk-through last Saturday.

Elliott and the NFLPA are expected to continue to pursue legal action against the NFL.

Ezekiel Elliott Files Lawsuit To Overturn Suspension

Sep 2, 2017 12:09 PM

Ezekiel Elliott has filed a pre-emptive lawsuit challenging the appeal process stemming from the six-game suspension imposed upon him by the NFL.

The petition seeks a ruling from the United States District Court vacating the eventual ruling in the case, which would block the suspension, presuming that the arbitrator affirms all or part of the pending six-game banishment.

Elliott quickly filed suit because the NFL filed the first lawsuit two years ago in the Tom Brady case, rushing to federal court in Manhattan immediately after the ruling on Brady's appeal became final. Though the league lost at the district court level, the NFL prevailed in the appeals court.
