Jay Gruden: Robert Griffin III Should Take Big Leap In 2015

May 11, 2015 3:22 PM

Jay Gruden believes Robert Griffin III will take a big leap during the 2015 season.

“Going into Year 2 in this system should be a big jump, you know,” Gruden said, via the Washington Post. “You’re not really thinking about who’s where, what’s my footwork. Everything should come a lot more natural for you, and hopefully, we see that transition from year one to year two in this system with the terminology and knowing where to go with your footwork and anticipation of getting the ball out quicker. Hopefully, that comes.”

Griffin agreed that things feel different in terms of “knowing what coach wants and growing together” and Washington has picked up the quarterback’s option for 2016.

McCloughan: Matt Jones Has Similar Style As Marshawn Lynch

May 9, 2015 3:48 PM

Washington drafted Matt Jones in the third round and could eventually replace Alfred Morris at running back.

Scot McCloughan compared Jones' violent running style to Marshawn Lynch.

"Matt Jones reminds me a lot -- a lot -- of Marshawn," McCloughan said, via CSN Washington, "from the standpoint that he's north-south, he's downhill and he's not afraid of contact."

McCloughan can speak with authority on the subject because he was in the Seahawks' front office when Seattle traded for Lynch back in 2010.

"You come downhill, and you know what? I was very lucky to be around Marshawn Lynch for the years I was in Seattle," McCloughan told WJFK's Grant Paulsen and Danny Rouhier. "And to see the violence he ran with, to see how guys got tired of tackling him; Matt Jones is similar."

Fred Davis Reinstated By NFL

May 7, 2015 11:13 AM

Fred Davis has been reinstated by the NFL.

Davis was suspended indefinitely by the NFL in February 2014 for his second violation of the league's substance abuse policy. He said he was suspended for taking a supplement that included a banned substance. He says it wasn't for marijuana, which was the reason for his first suspension.

Davis played for Washington from 2008 to '13. He's unlikely to be back with the team.
