Redskins Expect Griffin To Run As Needed Against Cowboys

Oct 20, 2014 10:40 PM

Robert Griffin III had just four rushing yards last week against the Eagles, his first game back since suffering a mild sprain of his lateral collateral ligament in his right knee.

Kyle Shanahan didn't take his lack of running as a sign that he was unable to run the ball effectively.

"We ran a bunch of [quarterback] keepers in the game and he still scrambled a few times that I thought he looked good on," said Shanhan. "So I thought he was running all right.”

The Redskins expect Griffin to be able to the ball as needed against the Cowboys.

“We held him back some” against the Eagles, Shanahan said. “But it was more the game plan, from a schematic standpoint. We ran him here and there, not as much… but he got a couple opportunities. I think he gets healthier each week. It’s only natural to get better. We’ll see what happens this week.”

Griffin Encouraged By Progress On Knee

Oct 20, 2014 10:40 PM

Robert Griffin III is optimistic he will play on Sunday against the Browns.

"Sunday night, I thought there was probably no chance that I could play the next week," Griffin said. "And then Monday morning, I felt better about it. Yesterday, I felt better about it. And today I feel really good about it, so it just depends on if I continue to progress the way I am."

Griffin suffered a knee sprain last week against the Ravens.

"I can't tell you all that," said Griffin when asked if he expects to play. "First, I don't want to give the Cleveland Browns a competitive advantage. And I don't want to let anybody down, so I don't want to say that I'll be playing and end up not playing."

Source: Redskins Haven't Ruled Out Griffin Starting

Oct 29, 2014 4:34 AM

Pierre Garcon said that Kirk Cousins will start on Sunday for the Washington Redskins against the Cleveland Browns, but a source says that Robert Griffin III hasn't been ruled out yet.

Griffin suffered a mild knee sprain in the Redskins' win on Sunday over the Ravens.

“Now we have a little bit tougher task,” Garcon said on ESPN. “We have Kirk starting. We have to play well around Kirk so Kirk doesn’t feel like he has to try to save the team. We have to help him to be as comfortable as possible.”

Redskins Improve To 6-1 With Garcon Playing

Oct 20, 2014 10:46 PM

Pierre Garcon caught the Washington Redskins game-tying touchdown from Kirk Cousins with 29 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Redskins are now 6-1 in games Garcon has played.

Garcon has 28 catches for 437 yards and four touchdowns in those seven games.

“I don’t think I’ve made any spectacular difference,” he said. “I just try to go out there and play hard, just giving it everything I got. I think the guys see that, and they’re happy and when a guy goes extremely hard, it kind of motivates you to go hard."

Griffin Sprains Knee, No Major Damage

Sep 30, 2014 10:01 PM

Robert Griffin III suffered a sprained right knee during the fourth quarter of the Washington Redskins' overtime win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Griffin's availability for next week is unclear, but an X-ray and MRI revealed no major damage to the knee, including major ligaments.

Griffin left the field for one play and returned for four more before dropping to the ground in pain.

"I still felt like I could go out and help the team win," Griffin said after the game. "I feel pretty good. I'll fight."

Russell Wilson Nearly Became Backup For Luck Or Griffin

Jul 10, 2014 3:48 PM

Sources say there were at least three teams, possibly more, that intended to draft Russell Wilson shortly after the Seattle Seahawks selected him with the 75th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

The Eagles would have picked Wilson at No. 88, the pick they used on Nick Foles.

The Colts would have selected Wilson to become Andrew Luck's backup at 92nd. T.Y. Hilton was picked at that point by Indianapolis.

The Redskins also would have picked Wilson at 102nd overall and instead went with Kirk Cousins. Cousins is the backup to Robert Griffin III.
