Titans, Finnegan Reaching 'Fourth Quarter' Of Negotiations

Oct 31, 2014 5:06 AM

There has been no progress between Cortland Finnegan and the Titans on a new contract as free agency approaches. Finnegan has put his home on the market and is still convinced he won't be back with the team for 2012. Agent Terry Watson said he's scheduled to meet with Titans officials at the NFL Combine later this week. "It is more of a wait-and-see situation, depending on how the conversation goes when we do meet," Watson said. "It is up to the Titans to be able to show Cortland what their mindset is, where things are. "And the only way that can be done is through the use of numbers composed in a contract of some sort, and that hasn't happened to this point. That, in essence, is where things are at this moment." Finnegan was Tennessee's fourth-leading tackler last season while also producing one sack, one interception and 12 passes defensed. "We're in the fourth quarter of this thing," Watson said. "He could be a Tennessee Titan long term, or he could be gone. We are sitting on February 20th ... I am not sure what the meeting will hold. It depends on the Titans."

Titans: Moss Was Model Teammate In 2010

Jun 8, 2014 9:01 PM

Randy Moss last played in the NFL as a member for the Titans for eight games in 2010. He caught just six passes for 80 yards. Behind the scenes, the receiver known for having a huge ego, handled what was believed to be his NFL swan song with dignity, according to Tennessee sources. However, his storied less-than-dogged approach to practice and a tendency to disappear in double teams on game day did persist with the Titans. Still his reputation as a malcontent may be overblown. "He was great," one team official said. "He was a great personality, he brought an energy to practice. He was constantly talking, but it was all in a competitive way, not a negative way. "As a player, he's never been a great practice player, but there were no issues. The problem was in games, he'd lose interest, he'd dog it sometimes. ... He gets frustrated with double teams; when he gets bracketed, he'll shut it down, and that causes a problem for you. But as a guy, he was good here." Added another official: "He was not a 'hard' practice guy. He was what he's always been, but it was not a detriment."

Britt On Track To Return By Preseason

Oct 9, 2014 4:59 AM

Titans general manager Ruston Webster said this week that wide receiver Kenny Britt is recovering well from the knee injury that prematurely ended his season, and should be ready by the start of the preseason. "Kenny's been working hard, and he's coming fast, probably even a little faster than I thought he would, so I'm real happy about that," the general manager said. "We expect to have him out there for training camp. "The good thing about this injury, if there was a good thing, is it happened early. And he's a very strong young man and bounces back pretty quickly from these things."

GM: Titans Happy With Current QBs

Sep 6, 2014 4:04 PM

The Titans new GM says the team is in good hands with the quarterbacks they have, according to an ESPN.com report on Tuesday. Ruston Webster understands why some Volunteer fans want Peyton Manning to continue his NFL career in the state where he played in college. Some fans have put together a website and solicited money for billboards in Indianapolis imploring the quarterback to return. But the Titans tried to downplay the Manning talk Tuesday in a conference call with season-ticket holders as Webster addressed the topic before taking questions. Webster called Manning a great player in the NFL and noted he was under contract with another team. "We also feel like we're in good hands," Webster said.
