Brunell Still On Radar For Jets
The Jets are still believed to be interested in former Saints backup quarterback Mark Burnell.
However, the Jets are restricted from signing any unrestricted free agents under the new rule limiting the final four playoff teams.
They cannot add another player until July 22.
Ryan Says Sanchez 'Doing Fantastic'
Jets coach Rex Ryan believes that quarterback Mark Sanchez is ahead of schedule in his recovery from offseason knee surgery.
Sanchez had the patella-stabilizing ligament in his left knee repaired in February.
"He's doing fantastic," Ryan said. "He's probably ahead of where we thought he'd be."
Super Bowl XLVIII Awarded To New York
It took four votes, but New York/New Jersey was chosen Tuesday to host the 2014 Super Bowl.
NFL owners picked Meadowlands Stadium, the new $1.6 billion facility in East Rutherford, N.J., over Miami and Tampa.
No bid received the required 24 of 32 votes on the first ballot, so NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell called for a second ballot.
Miami was eliminated on that ballot, but owners couldn't choose between New York and Tampa on the third.
A simple majority was needed on the fourth ballot, and New York became the winner.
Jets Optimistic About Super Bowl Bid
Jets owner Woody Johnson is confident about New York's Super Bowl bid.
The city is looking to host the 2014 Super Bowl, which will be awarded on Tuesday.
"I think we're cautiously optimistic," Johnson said. "I think we've done a good job in preparing for it. It's our first time, so we're new, compared to the two cities we're competing against. But I think we did a very credible job."
Jets Haven't Begun Talks With Ferguson
The Jets haven't begun discussing a long-term extension with D'Brickashaw Ferguson.
He is entering the fifth year of a six-year, $37.5 million rookie year.
"He's an honorable guy," a person close to Ferguson told the New York Daily News. "He's patient... Nobody's going to make any noise on (his) end."
Revis Wants To Be Highest-Paid Corner
Darrelle Revis is refuting rumors that he's looking for $20 million annually, but he does want to be the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL.
The Jets have submitted offers for a new contract to the defender's agents.
"I don't know where the $20 million came from," Revis said. "I never told you guys that. Don't know who brought that up but I'm sure it is not going to be up in that area. That's insane. That would be great. Who wouldn't want $20 million? But that is a high price."
Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha is currently the league's highest-paid defensive back at $15.2 million a year.
"I think that is fair," Revis said. "This is nothing behind closed doors [like] I am fighting against the Jets and they are fighting against me. I have talked to Coach [Rex] Ryan and [general manager Mike] Tannenbaum himself and they believe I should be the highest-paid player at my position. They understand that and I understand that. It is something that is going to get done. The Jets are family to me."
Ellis Upset Jets Didn't Give Him Extension
Shaun Ellis is still upset that the Jets rejected his attempt to get a contract extension.
However, he says that he wants to remain with the team.
"The fact is that it's the last year of my deal and it's time to get an extension," the veteran defensive end told The New Post. "I tried to work something out and they basically told me, 'No,' and they're making me play it out."
Ellis conceded that this "[ticks] me off."
"I've done a lot in this league and I have a lot more to do," he said. "My numbers speak for themselves. I feel definitely that I have produced and I've been producing for a long time."
Holmes: New York Is Too Cold For Super Bowl
The Jets are excited about the possibility of co-hosting the 2014 Super Bowl at their new Meadowlands Stadium.
However, wide receiver Santonio Holmes would rather not play a Super Bowl in a cold-weather city such as New York.
"I like a Super Bowl where the elements don't have any factor in the game," Holmes said Thursday. "I would prefer to keep all Super Bowls somewhere in the South. I don't want to play anywhere where it's cold. We play in it enough during the season."
Jets Have Sent Proposals To Revis, Agents
Darrelle Revis says that the Jets have sent over contract proposals to him and his agents.
"They sent the proposal over, so we're going to look at that then go from there," Revis said Thursday. "If everything's right, the numbers are right, and everything is good, I'll sign on the dotted line. If not, and we have to negotiate more, that's something we have to do."
Revis is scheduled to make $1 million in 2010 in the fourth year of his six-year, $36 million rookie deal.
Taylor To Wear No. 95 For Jets To Honor Dolphin
Jets linebacker Jason Taylor can't wear No. 99 with the team, so he has decided to wear No. 95 in honor of former Dolphins defensive tackle Tim Bowens.
Linebacker Bryan Thomas wears No. 99 for the Jets.
"Timbo was one of my all-time favorites," Taylor said. "He's the most unselfish, underrated teammate I've ever had."
