Jenkins: Favre's 'Superstar Status' Caused 'Animosity' In New York

Aug 26, 2014 5:56 AM

Kris Jenkins took some shots at former Jets teammate Brett Favre on Friday night's NFL Total Access on NFL Network. Jenkins said Favre's presence caused a rift in the New York locker room in 2008. "No, no it was not," Jenkins said when asked if the team's chemistry was good. He didn't call out Favre or any of his teammates in particular, Jenkins cited some negative comments made by some Jets in the papers which he says, "destroy the morale of the locker room." "It was a snowball effect," Jenkins added. "And once it was a snowball effect, and some things started happening here, there -- then the next thing you know it gets out of control, and the team was lost at that point."

Jets coach Rex Ryan flipped off Dolphins fans in Miami during an event on Saturday night. Ryan made the obscene gesture during an MMA event, according to a report in the Miami Herald. Sunday, Ryan apologized in a statement released by the Jets: "It was stupid and inappropriate. I wouldn't accept that type of behavior from one of the coaches or players and it's unacceptable from me. I apologize to the Jets organization, the National Football League and NFL fans everywhere."

Jun 15, 2014 9:24 PM

Jets Will Definitely Keep Gholston, Not Sure On Thomas Jones

Jun 15, 2014 9:24 PM

Underachieving linebacker Vernon Gholston will definitely be back with the Jets next season, as GM Mike Tannenbaum praised Gholston?s ?great work ethic.? ?This is going to be an important offseason for him,? Tannenbaum said. ?I have no objective information to say that this guy doesn?t love football.? Tannenbaum also commented on the Thomas Jones situation, which is problematic financially. "We expect TJ to be back," Tannenbaum said. "There are some economic issues that obviously have to be looked at over the next month, but we hope that he is back. He's done a lot for our team, both on and off the field. Rex has talked about what he's done from a leadership standpoint. We look at his production and its really remarkable, but it's a testament to TJ." Tannenbaum also expects safety Kerry Rhodes to return.

Nov 29, 2014 12:50 AM

Mark Sanchez visited noted orthopedist Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday to have his right knee examined, The Star-Ledger has confirmed. Sanchez suffered a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in a 19-13 victory over the Buffalo Bills in a Week 13 game in Toronto when he made an ill-advised head-first slide. Sanchez will likely have his left knee examined as well. He injured that knee in college.

Jones A No-Show As Jets Clean Out Lockers

Nov 12, 2014 11:45 AM

Thomas Jones wasn't present on Monday as the Jets cleaned out their lockers at the team's facility. The emergence of rookie running back Shonn Greene has fueled rumors that Jones may not return to New York next season. Jones, who rushed for 1,402 yards in 2009, has one year left on his four-year, $20 million contract. He was reportedly unhappy with his $900,000 base salary last season.

Four Coaches Won't Return To Jets

Sep 20, 2014 6:13 PM

The Jets parted ways with four assistant coaches and a consultant on Monday. Assistant defensive backs coach Doug Plank, assistant quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, special-teams coach Kevin O'Dea and defensive quality control coach Brian Smith won't return. Plank was fired, while the other three won't have their expiring contracts renewed. Pass-rushing consultant Chuck Smith left to become defensive line coach at the University of Tennessee. "We're going to have, unfortunately the way everything is, there's some guys on our staff that their contracts won't be extended," Ryan said. "They ran out, and some contracts will not be extended, and that's unfortunate because some guys did a great job. I'd really rather not get into the particulars of things right now."

Jets Expect Passing Game To Evolve

May 22, 2014 5:47 PM

Braylon Edwards wants to stick with the Jets and he expects the team's passing game to be more dangerous in 2010. "It's not about evolving. It's about the situation," Edwards said. "The run worked for us all year. Thomas Jones and Shonn Greene as well as our line did a tremendous job all season. "The passing game was in a developing stage because, one, you have a rookie quarterback. Two, you have a new acquisition in myself, who has to learn the system. Dustin Keller made some plays for us, but he's still young. We get an offseason together, and we'll be able to get together with Mark. All of us can learn how we play. "Mark will get better, and slowly but surely become a Peyton Manning, a guy that knows his receivers, a guy that knows the game."

Vikings Had Huge Trench Counter Advantage Despite Loss

Apr 19, 2014 2:34 AM

The Trench Counter always goes a long ways in indicating which team played superior football at the line of scrimmage and the results from the NFC Championship were fascinating. Minnesota had a +8.0 over New Orleans in the Trench Counter, even despite the Saints having a +4 in the turnover department. The Vikings had 218 more total yards and 16 more first downs, but were unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities at the end of the first half and the end of regulation. Fewer than 5% of losing teams have a positive Trench Counter over the course of a season and it is incredibly rare for a team to lose a game with a differential that high. In the AFC Championship Game, the Colts held a +10.5 advantage over the Jets. Click here for more information on the Trench Counter

Edwards Unhappy With Role In Loss

Sep 20, 2014 6:11 PM

Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards wasn't happy with his role in the team's 30-17 loss to the Colts in Sunday's AFC Title Game. Edwards finished with two catches for 100 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown connection with rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez in the second quarter. "We didn't have the same attitude in the second half that we had in the first half," Edwards said. Asked if he wouldn't have liked a few more opportunities, the receiver said, "I don't call plays. I just run them. ... No disrespect but they weren't rolling the coverage toward me."
