Bears Trade Payne To Rams
The Bears have traded safety Kevin Payne to the Rams for an undisclosed pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.
Payne was a fifth-round pick of Chicago back in 2007.
The move came one day after the Bears made a trade with Carolina for safety Chris Harris.
Westbrook Passes Physical With Rams
Brian Westbrook still wants to play football and he got one step closer when he passed a physical with the Rams this weekend.
Westbrook has since left St. Louis, after meeting with team officials, and is mulling his options.
"He wanted to go back (home) and think it over," Rams general manager Billy Devaney said Monday. "We're just taking it one step at a time right now."
The two concussions Westbrook suffered last season don't appear to be an issue any longer.
Holmgren: Browns Made Offer For 1st Pick
Browns president Mike Holmgren says he made a last-ditch effort to acquire the No. 1 pick from the Rams prior to the start of the NFL Draft on Thursday night.
Holmgren says he made a phone call to St. Louis about 20 minutes prior to the draft.
The president said Saturday that he made the offer to Rams general manager Billy Devaney "at the limits of what I was willing to do."
Westbrook Takes Physical With Rams
Brian Westbrook had a physical with the Rams on Sunday.
Westbrook was released by the Eagles in February.
St. Louis coach Steve Spagnuolo was noncommittal about what the physical meant in regards to a potential deal.
Rams Haven't Committed To Bradford For Week 1
The Rams haven't committed to rookie quarterback Sam Bradford as their starter in Week 1 of the NFL season.
St. Louis drafted Bradford with the first overall pick on Thursday night.
"There's no preconceived notion or game plan with Sam right now, or with the quarterback situation," coach Steve Spagnuolo said. "I think we've put ourselves in a situation where we can go either way. I feel real comfortable with some guys we?ve got on this football team.
"It's not about one guy. This team will never be about one guy. That's certainly a very important position, and that position has to play well. But we'll do what's best for him and what's best for the team."
Bills, Browns In Contact With Rams For No. 33
Both the Bills and Browns have contacted the Rams about trading for the No. 33 pick, according to a report from Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Jimmy Clausen and Colt McCoy are in play for the two teams.
Rams Open To Dealing 33rd Pick
The Rams are open to trading the first pick of the second round of the NFL Draft, which will resume on Friday night.
"We just have to figure out ... keep the pick, or if it's an option, we'll see whether to trade the pick," St. Louis general manager Billy Devaney said. "And then how far, how deep we want to go back" in the draft if they deal the spot.
St. Louis is on the clock with the No. 33 overall pick.
"Let's face it: There's a lot more interest generated in 24 hours than when you have 15 minutes," coach Steve Spagnuolo said.
Browns, Rams Talked Right Before Draft
The Browns and Rams had conversations just prior to the NFL Draft, according to ESPN's Michael Smith.
Cleveland general manager Mike Holmgren is trying to move up to take a quarterback, presumably Sam Bradford.
Smith reported just prior to the beginning of the draft that Holmgren spoke with the Rams' front office within the last hour about acquiring the No. 1 pick.
The Browns were willing to deal must of their picks in this year's draft and some in 2011 for the pick.
Steelers Discuss Roethlisberger Deal With Raiders, Rams
The Steelers have stepped up their efforts to trade quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
Pittsburgh was rebuffed by St. Louis over the weekend, but a league source said Wednesday that Oakland is more open to a deal.
The Raiders need a veteran quarterback and they tried to land Donovan McNabb before Philadelphia sent him to Washington.
Oakland owes the eighth overall pick and could use it to land Roethlisberger.
Kroenke Wants Rams To Stay In St. Louis
Billionaire Stan Kroenke wants to keep the Rams in St. Louis.
"I'm going to attempt to do everything that I can to keep the Rams in St. Louis," Kroenke told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Just as I did everything that I could to bring the team to St. Louis in 1995. I believe my actions speak for themselves."
Kroenke announced recently that he wants to buy the 60 percent of the team he doesn't yet own.
