Jeff Fisher Knew Rams Were Moving To Los Angeles In 2012

Dec 27, 2016 11:08 AM

Jeff Fisher admitted to knowing Stan Kroenke planned on moving the Rams to Los Angeles when he took over as coach in 2012.

Throughout his tenure while still in St. Louis, Fisher repeatedly played dumb about Kroenke's plans.

"I was very fortunate to have some options," said Fisher, referencing his return to coaching in 2012. "I decided on L.A., or St. Louis, at the time, knowing that there was going to be a pending move. More importantly, I took the job because of Stan, and because we had a quarterback in Sam Bradford. That's how you win in this league, with a good owner and a quarterback. So, Stan gave me the opportunity. To answer your question, I'm disappointed. But I didn't win enough games. I get that part."

Fisher was asked multiple questions about overseeing the Oilers move from Houston to Tennessee during his interview with the Rams.

Jon Gruden Has 'No Intention Of Coaching' As Rams' Links Continue

Dec 22, 2016 10:54 PM

Jon Gruden shot down suggestions he could leave his job with ESPN on Monday Night Football for the Los Angeles Rams' vacancy.

Gruden said he has "no intention of coaching" and is enjoying his time with "Monday Night Football."

"You know, I love football, and I've said that a million times," said Gruden. "I just want to say that I'm very happy doing what I'm doing. My full attention and focus is on the Cowboys-Lions, I cannot wait for our final Monday night game. There's a lot of chips on the table.

"But right now I have no intention of coaching. I really enjoy what I'm doing and I feel like I'm really close to the fire and I'm getting plenty of satisfaction out of doing what I'm doing."

Only Steelers Rank In Top-10 In Offense, Defense DVOA (Infographic)

Dec 21, 2016 10:38 AM

The NFL has very teams this season that excel in all facets of the game. Further evidence of this issue shows itself in the fact that there is only one team ranking in the top-10 in both Football Outsiders' Offensive and Defensive DVOA: the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers are 9-5 after winning five straight games and must beat the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16 to ensure their place in the playoffs. Pittsburgh ranks third in total DVOA and first in Weighted DVOA.

Last season, the Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs ranked in the top-10 on both sides of the ball. The Chiefs are the closest team to joining the Steelers in the top-10 in both Offensive and Defensive DVOA at 13th and 12th.

The Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots rank first and second overall in DVOA as they rank second and third, respectively in Offensive DVOA but 20th and 19th in Defensive DVOA. The Atlanta Falcons rank first in Offensive DVOA, 27th in Defensive and fourth overall. The Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders have similar splits as the Cowboys and Patriots, while the Seahawks, Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants are the inverse of those teams with top-5 defenses and offenses below the NFL mean.

Rams May Promote Sean Mannion For Final Two Games

Dec 20, 2016 3:35 PM

The Los Angeles Rams may promote Sean Mannion for the final two games of the regular season.

Jared Goff has been backed up by Case Keenum since he was made the starter, but the rookie is currently in the NFL's concussion protocol. eenum could be demoted in favor of reps for Mannion.

"We'd love to get Sean some reps in the situation like last week, where something happens to Jared -- whether he can't find his helmet or his shoelace breaks -- get Sean in there for a little bit of work, which would be good, to see Sean," interim coach John Fassel said. "Case has performed well when required, but it would be good for the team to get a look at Sean and see what he can do if pressed into service by necessity."

Goff participated in Monday's walkthrough and the team expects him to clear protocol.

Mannion was last active for the season opener versus the 49ers when Goff was the third-stringer.

Dean Spanos Admits Chargers Are Leaning Towards Move To L.A.

Dec 20, 2016 7:54 AM

San Diego Chargers owner Dean Spanos admitted on Sunday that he's leaning towards exercising his right to move to Los Angeles.

"I said I was not going to make up my mind until after the season," Spanos said. "[Scott Kaplan] asked the question, 'Are you closer to leaving than staying?' I said, 'That would probably be an accurate statement.' I also said I'm not going to make up my mind until after the season. ... Everything is in place. I'm waiting on the city of San Diego."

The deadline for doing a deal with the Rams to share space in Inglewood arrives on January 15.

Janoris Jenkins: Rams Players Aren't Allowed To Speak To Stan Kroenke

Dec 16, 2016 1:08 PM

Janoris Jenkins, now with the New York Giants, had some interesting comments about his time as a member of the Los Angeles (then St. Louis) Rams.

"It's a big difference, to be honest with you," Jenkins told Going Deep with Amani & Dan on NBC Sports Radio. "Just being here in New York and seeing [G.M.] Jerry Reese every day at practice, it just motivates me because I never seen that in St. Louis. It was always the coaches not the owners coming around to see the players. It was always, 'Don't speak to Stan Kroenke' when I was in St. Louis to here in New York, everybody is everybody, everybody is treated the same, the owner just walks around and communicates with you and gives you a reason to play football to know that you're playing for someone that is always around and always cares and that you can communicate with."

Jenkins explained that the bizarre warning to not talk to Kroenke affected the player's ability to feel comfortable in the organization.

"I felt I was just playing for my teammates and my coaches, I never seen the owner, once again, they told us not to speak to him when he come around and I just felt like I wasn't comfortable there," Jenkins said. "They said, if you ever see Stan come around the facility don't speak to him, once I heard that my rookie year I just knew I wasn't going to be comfortable, because when he came around it was like everybody better be straightforward nobody better not look at him, it was like kind of crazy."

Jared Goff Enters Concussion Protocol

Dec 16, 2016 10:12 AM

Jared Goff left Thursday night's game against the Seattle Seahawks and entered the NFL's concussion protocol after taking a hit from Richard Sherman.

Goff was talking casually with his teammates postgame and Todd Gurley said he "was fine."

"He seemed OK, but he's probably tough enough to disguise it," interim coach John Fassel said. "He's in the protocol, so we'll see how it is."

Chargers Won't Decide On Move To L.A. Until After Season

Dec 15, 2016 4:34 PM

NFL owners unanimously approved a final tenant-lease contract between the San Diego Chargers and Los Angeles Rams on Wednesday.

The contract was agreed to in principle in January, when Rams owner Stan Kroenke received approval to move his team to Los Angeles. Owners also unanimously approved the Chargers using a debt waiver to finance a portion of the $650 million relocation fee.

Dean Spanos reiterated that he will not make a decision on whether his Chargers will remain in San Diego or move to Los Angeles until after the season is completed.

The Chargers have until Jan. 15 to exercise the team's option to move to Los Angeles.

"They've been working for 15 years [to keep the team] in their community," Roger Goodell said. "They're a big part of that community. They believe in that community, and they want to be a part of it.

"It's Dean's option by Jan. 15 to make a determination of whether he thinks he can make it work in San Diego or whether he decides to take the option to Los Angeles."

Todd Gurley Stands By Comments After Jeff Fisher's Firing

Dec 14, 2016 10:32 AM

Todd Gurley didn't back down from his criticism of the Los Angeles Rams, saying they ran a "middle school offense" on Sunday one day before Jeff Fisher was fired.

"At the end of the day," Gurley said, "if anybody seen the game and seen the way we played and seen the whole interview, then you know what I was talking about."

The Rams have lost eight of their last nine games and suffered blowouts in their last three contests. Some believe Gurley's comments led to Fisher's dismissal, but the running back also indicated that the coaching staff wasn't playing on the field.

"I don't think that had anything to do with Coach Fisher [being let go]," Jared Goff said. "I think Todd was emotional. We all are. We're all frustrated. He just made some comments."

Jim Harbaugh Calls NFL Links 'Lies Made Up By Our Enemies'

Dec 14, 2016 4:49 PM

Jim Harbaugh told his Michigan team that rumors of his potential return to the NFL are nothing more than "lies made up by our enemies.

"The team got all riled up," senior defensive lineman Ryan Glasgow said Tuesday night at the team's annual banquet. "We don't want any enemies infiltrating the fortress. We knew. Based on how much Coach Harbaugh loves the program and loves Michigan, you know he's not leaving anytime soon, if ever."

Harbaugh has been linked to the NFL following the Los Angeles Rams' dismissal of Jeff Fisher.

"It's ridiculous," senior captain Jake Butt said Tuesday night. "If I'm not wrong, didn't he take less money to come here? I don't know if it's a recruiting pitch from other schools or whatever is going on. I can't even take it seriously."

Harbaugh makes an annual salary of $5 million at Michigan. He received an additional $4 million this season in the form of a no-interest loan for a life insurance policy.
