Jul 31, 2014 10:08 AM

Dwyane Bowe, who led the Chiefs in receptions and receiving yards the past three years, was not on the field Friday as the team opened training camp. Bowe, a Pro Bowler in 2010, was given the franchise tag when he refused to sign Kansas City's tender.

Three Franchised Players Remain Unsigned

Oct 28, 2014 11:17 PM

The deadline for franchised players to sign multiyear contracts has passed and three of those players remain unsigned. Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, Lions defensive end Cliff Avril and 49ers safety Dashon Goldson haven't signed their franchise tenders. The trio are all expected to sign their one-year franchise tenders eventually, but all of them may decide to take their time, possibly skipping training camp and waiting until just before the start of the regular season. Six more franchise players have signed their one-year tender offers and will play out the 2012 season for the franchise salary: Falcons cornerback Brent Grimes, Patriots receiver Wes Welker, Redskins tight end Fred Davis, Bengals kicker Mike Nugent, Browns kicker Phil Dawson and Cowboys linebacker Anthony Spencer.

Weis: Quinn Could Have Started For Me In NFL

Oct 31, 2014 8:26 AM

More than a year after leaving as offensive coordinator of the Chiefs, Charlie Weis has reflected on his time in the NFL. "You know," Weis said, "obviously, there's trials and tribulations wherever you go, but I enjoyed it." Brady Quinn, who has bounced around during his six years in the NFL, still has a supporter in Weis. Weis was quick to mention that Quinn won the long-drive contest with a blast of well more than 300 yards. "Brady could have been a starting quarterback for me in the NFL," he says. "Go back and look at those numbers for the two years he played for me," Weis said. "He was great. He wasn't good. And I know if I had him as a quarterback, I would have felt very comfortable that I could have won no matter where we were."

Chiefs Used 'Kill The Head And The Body Will Die' Motto In 2008

Oct 31, 2014 10:33 AM

The phrase "kill the head and the body will die" has become synonymous with Gregg Williams and his heat-seeking semantics as the defensive coordinator with the Saints. However, the Chiefs used the phrase all season long in 2008. A screen grab from the 2008 NFL Films production "Hey Rookie, Welcome to the NFL" clearly shows "KILL THE HEAD & THE BODY WILL DIE" painted on the wall of Kansas City's defensive line room. Williams, who didn't invent the phrase, was the Jaguars defensive coordinator that season. The Chiefs were led by Herm Edwards, with Gunther Cunningham as defensive coordinator and Tim Krumrie coaching the defensive line.

Talks Between Chiefs, Bowe Have Gone Nowhere

Aug 4, 2014 2:22 AM

Talks between the Chiefs and Dwayne Bowe regarding a long-term contract have gone nowhere, according to sources. There doesn't appear to be much motivation to get a deal put in place as the deadline for franchise players to sign long-term deals nears.

Holmes Saw Color Changes After Big Hits

Oct 31, 2014 5:15 AM

Priest Holmes has opened up about his time as a running back in the NFL, revealing some of the things that happened when he suffered big hits. Holmes, who broke out with the Chiefs, said hits left him dizzy and he even saw the sky change color on some occasions. "This color obviously isn't going to be blue. It can be a color that can be orange. It can be red. The sky could turn green," Holmes recently told FOX Sports. "There's even an episode where you see a clear light, like light at the end of the tunnel." Holmes acknowledged he didn't worry about his health during the prime of his NFL career. "The frontal headaches, the migraines," Holmes said of his status now. "Laying in bed, it's tough to get out mornings just because of the pain that is setting in with an arthritic condition, it's things like that that you never would have really thought about."

Chargers Apologize For Targeting Chiefs Fans

Oct 31, 2014 3:41 PM

The Chargers are apologizing to fans for looking desperate by targeting Chiefs fans in ticket emails. Last week, a Kansas City fan was sent a generic email from the Chargers trying to sell tickets to a Chargers-Chiefs game in San Diego. The fan posted it on his Arrowhead Addicts website as a way to poke fun at San Diego's desperation. "I totally understand that reaction," Chargers CEO A.G. Spanos said. "It's disappointing because we've been so aggressive this year with trying to sell to new Chargers fans. ... We're trying our best to pack the stadium with Chargers fans. This article, it hurt." The article hit such a nerve because the Chargers are clearly struggling to sell tickets. They've had six blackouts in the last two seasons.
