Clark Hunt says the Kansas City Chiefs will look at options beyond renovating Arrowhead Stadium as the team searches for a home beyond the expiration of its lease following the 2030 season.
"We will approach it from a broader perspective going forward because time is short for us at this point and so we need to see what other options are out there for us," Hunt said. "When we started on this process three years ago, it felt like we had a very long time, a long runway with about 9 1/2 [years] left on our lease. We're now down to 6½ and so I do feel very much of a sense of urgency.
"Arrowhead is a special place for our family and our fan base. That was one of the reasons that we focused on it with the last effort, but going forward it may make more sense for us to be in a new stadium."
Voters in Jackson County, Missouri, rejected a sales tax measure earlier this month that would have helped fund major renovations to Arrowhead as well as build a new ballpark for MLB's Royals in downtown Kansas City.
Options for a stadium for the Chiefs elsewhere in the Kansas City area include building on the Kansas side of the state line.

Andy Reid's contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs is worth $100 million over five years, giving him an annual average of $20 million.
Reid's deal surpasses Sean Payton's five-year, $90 million deal sign with the Denver Broncos last year.
Bill Belichick reportedly earned $25 million per year with the New England Patriots.
In 2018, the Las Vegas Raiders signed Jon Gruden to a 10-year, $100 million deal.
Andy Reid has signed a contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs that makes him the NFL's highest-paid coach. The deal runs through the 2029 season.
Reid was previously reportedly making $12.5 million per year. Sean Payton of the Denver Broncos reportedly makes $18 million per year.
The Chiefs also signed general manager Brett Veach and president Mark Donovan to extensions.
Reid will be 71 when his current deal with the Chiefs expires.
A judge has ordered the Kansas City Chiefs superfan who committed a series of bank robberies to pay $10.8 million to a Bixby, Oklahoma, teller he threatened with a gun in December 2022.
Tulsa County District Judge Tracy L. Priddy ordered Xaviar Babudar, widely known as Chiefsaholic, to pay Payton Garcia, the former teller, $3.6 million for inflicting physical harm and emotional distress and $7.2 million in punitive damages.
Babudar, 29, built a large social media following, cultivating the image of an ambitious, generous young man who enjoyed gambling, Kansas State sports and, most of all, the Chiefs. However, an ESPN investigation revealed that much of what he portrayed about himself online was not true.
Babudar was first arrested Dec. 16, 2022, in Bixby, after fleeing the Tulsa Teachers Credit Union, where he pointed at black CO2 pistol at Garcia and demanded she give him "the 100s" or he'd put a bullet in her head, according to Bixby police.
Chiefs defensive end Mike Danna has agreed on a three-year, $24 million deal to remain in Kansas City, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press on Friday.
The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the deal is pending a physical. Danna's deal was first reported by NFL Network.
Carson Wentz says past conversations with Nick Foles sold him on joining the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency this offseason.
Foles had positive things to say about the Chiefs and Andy Reid while the two quarterbacks were teammates on the Philadelphia Eagles.
"I remember all the good things he had to say about his time here," Wentz said. "He absolutely loved it. He loved working with those guys, and those things he said to me back then definitely still rang true in my head as I was making this decision.
"I just remember all the positive things he said about the organization, coaches. ... Those things were definitely a factor and gave me a little more peace and comfort in knowing what I was getting into."
Wentz, 31, is on his fifth team in five seasons.
According to a report, Kansas has begun efforts to get the Chiefs to build a new stadium in the state.
Specifically, former Kansas House Speaker Ron Ryckman, Jr. is "quietly working" with "unnamed parties" who are interested in getting the Chiefs to make a short move across the state line from Missouri.
The news comes after a proposal to fund a renovation to Arrowhead Stadium with an extension of an existing sales tax failed badly at the ballot box.
"Jackson County fumbled. Now there will be a mad scramble for the ball and we're in the best position for a scoop and score," Ryckman said.
The residents of Jackson County, Missouri resoundingly voted down a sales tax measure that would have helped to fund a new downtown ballpark for the Kansas City Royals along with major renovations to Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Chiefs.
Royals owner John Sherman and Chiefs president Mark Donovan acknowledged long before the final tally that the initiative would fail.
More than 58% of voters rejected the plan, which would have replaced three-eighths of a cent sales tax that has been paying for the upkeep of Truman Sports Complex -- the home for more than 50 years to Kauffman and Arrowhead Stadiums -- with a similar tax that would have been in place for the next 40 years.
Donovan said the Chiefs would do "what is in the best interest of our fans and our organization as we move forward."
