The Jaguars only waited two weeks to turn to rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert.
Luke McCown threw four interceptions against the Jets on Sunday.
Jacksonville coach Jack Del Rio met with Gabbert and McCown on Wednesday morning, then told other players at a team meeting.

Del Rio Quiet On Jags' QB Situation
Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio is stretching out his quarterback decision.
Del Rio declined to name a starter for Jacksonville's game at Carolina, saying he's still evaluating Luke McCown's performance at New York.
There's a lot to assess. McCown threw four interceptions and was sacked for a safety in Sunday's 32-3 loss. McCown was benched in the fourth quarter, replaced by rookie Blaine Gabbert, and finished with the lowest quarterback rating (1.8) in franchise history.
Santonio Holmes To Play
Wide receiver Santonio Holmes, listed as questionable with knee and quadriceps injuries, will play for the Jets Sunday against the Jaguars at MetLife Stadium, according to an ESPN.com report.
Jaguars Avoid Television Blackout
The Jaguars have sold enough tickets to lift the NFL's television blackout in local and secondary markets.
Jacksonville still has about 1,400 non-premium tickets remaining for Sunday's season-opening game.
Agent: Three Teams Interested In Garrard
Al Irby, the agent for quarterback David Garrard, says that three teams have already contacted him about the veteran's services.
Garrard was surprisingly released by the Jaguars on Tuesday.
"Been assured that the job was his this year," Irby said. "That's why we're all shocked, and so was he. This had to be a last minute decision, that's the only thing I can say. I don't think these guys would purposely tell me one thing and [do another]."
Jaguars Cut David Garrard
Just days before the NFL season begins, the Jaguars have cut quarterback David Garrard.
The move will save Jacksonville $9 million this season.
Jack Del Rio will turn the starting job over to Luke McCown, who outplayed Garrard and rookie Blaine Gabbert in the preseason.
Jets Trade Lowery To Jaguars
The Jets have traded defensive back Dwight Lowery to the Jaguars for an undisclosed conditional draft pick.
Instead of keeping Lowery on their 53-man roster, New York opted to hold onto Aaron Maybin.
"It was an opportunity for Dwight to go to a place where he's really going to be used and compete for that starting nickel job," Jets coach Rex Ryan said.
"I think it was kind of good for Dwight to go to Jacksonville and get more playing time, and for us, we just felt we had the depth we needed in the back end."
Fred Taylor To Retire As Jaguar
Fred Taylor, a veteran of 13 NFL seasons and nearly 12,000 years, will sign a one-day deal with the Jaguars on Friday so he can retire as a member of the team.
The former Florida star spent 11 seasons in Jacksonville and remains the franchise's leading rusher with 11,271 yards. He ranks third with 286 catches and fourth with 2,361 receiving yards.
Taylor spent the last two seasons playing sparingly in New England, where he ran 106 times for 424 yards and four touchdowns.
