Jaguars Plan On Firing Doug Marrone

Dec 28, 2019 3:25 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars plan on firing Doug Marrone after their Week 17 game on Sunday.

The Jaguars released a statement Saturday denying Marrone's dismissal.

"Reports that Doug Marrone will be dismissed after Sunday's game are 100 percent incorrect," a spokesman said in the statement. "Owner Shad Khan will meet with his football staff, which includes coaching and personnel, midweek next week."

Marrone has a 21-28 record in three seasons with the Jaguars.

Jaguars Fix Clocks After Firing Of Tom Coughlin

Dec 20, 2019 8:25 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars fixed the clocks in their facilities this week in the wake of Tom Coughlin's firing.

When Coughlin was hired as executive vice president of football operations in 2017, he moved all the clocks back five minutes.

"That's the first thing I noticed when I got in here," A.J. Bouye said. "I thought that I was late for meetings. I look up and I had an extra five minutes, so I was good."

Coughlin changed the clocks because his philosophy is, if you're not five minutes early to a meeting or commitment, you're considered late.

Jaguars Fire Tom Coughlin Following Player Grievance Scandal

Dec 18, 2019 10:30 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars fired Tom Coughlin as vice president of football operations.

The move comes two days after the NFL Players Association warned players of potentially signing with the Jaguars due to excessive fines and player grievances.

Khan said he initially decided to make the move once the season ended, but the letter the NFLPA sent to its players clearly accelerated his timetable.

"I determined earlier this fall that making this move at the conclusion of the 2019 season would be in everyone's best interests but, in recent days, I reconsidered and decided to make this change immediately," Khan said in a statement. "I thank Tom for his efforts, not only over the past three years but for all he did from our very first season, 25 years ago, to put the Jacksonville Jaguars on the map.

"My expectations, and those of our fans, for our final two games and the 2020 season are high."

Khan gave Coughlin the final say over all football matters, though he kept David Caldwell in the GM role.

The union has founded that more than 25 percent of the grievances filed by players in the entire league have been filed against the Jaguars.

"You as players may want to consider this when you have a chance to select your next club," wrote the union in the letter to players in conclusion.

Jaguars Could Make Regime Change In Offseason

Dec 15, 2019 3:58 PM

Significant changes are expected for the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason.

Head coach Doug Marrone, executive vice president of football operations Tom Coughlin and general manager Dave Caldwell run the Jaguars and the futures of all three men are uncertain.

Some believe it will be challenging for Marrone to keep his job while Coughlin could step aside to spend more time with his family.

The Jaguars were in the AFC Championship Game in the 2017 season, but the past two seasons have been disappointing.

Jaguars To Start Gardner Minshew For Remainder Of Season

Dec 2, 2019 9:38 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars have named Gardner Minshew their quarterback for the remainder of the season.

The Jaguars signed Foles to a four-year, $88 million contract with $50.125 million in guaranteed money this past offseason, but Minshew has given Jacksonville more life on offense.

"Obviously it was a tough deal," Doug Marrone said on an afternoon conference call. "Nick coming back from injury and us not being able to do a good enough job around him, really. So we feel with Gardner's mobility and elusiveness, it can give us a better chance of winning with the way we're playing right now because we're all not doing a good enough job."

Marrone said Foles handled the news well.

"It's brutal. It's tough," Marrone said. "He's a competitor. He's worked his ass off to come back and he's a great pro, so he's going to do everything he can to help us win. At the same time he's got to be ready in case there's an injury or whatever it may be. He'll be a pro about this.

"I think the world of him. I think he's a really good quarterback. He obviously can win in this league, but we've got to be able to have some help around him."
