Del Rio May Be Coaching For Job

Jul 11, 2014 2:53 AM

The Jaguars have two games left and coach Jack Del Rio may be coaching for his job. Jacksonville faces New England on Sunday with their playoff hopes on the line. Both Del Rio and quarterback David Garrard earned contract extensions after an 11-5 season in 2007, which included a playoff win over the Steelers. "Certainly, quarterbacks and head coaches understand that's part of what we do, to deal with the ups and the downs,'' Del Rio said. "It's part of what we do to stay the course and do the things we believe in, so I expect David to continue to do that. He's been successful three times this year bringing us on a late drive to win the game, and if it need be, I'd like to see number four Sunday."

Taylor: Jaguars Might Be Better In L.A.

Sep 20, 2014 12:17 PM

Former Jaguars running back Fred Taylor believes that the team might be better off in Los Angeles. Taylor played with the Jaguars from 1998 until being released after the 2008 season. "Sometimes the truth hurts," said Taylor, who will face off against Jacksonville as a member of the Patriots this weekend. "It can be played either way in that the fans want the team to stay there, they have to show that they want the team to stay there." Taylor said the league has made it clear a team eventually will be in Los Angeles and that the Jaguars are a good fit because of attendance problems in Jacksonville. "I don't know what's going to be a decision maker or breaker but you look at average attendance and whatever have you at the end of the day they're going to find a team to take out there," he said. "I don't want to offend anyone. Never do, but you've got to be realistic."

GM Backs Garrard As Jacksonville's QB

Jul 11, 2014 2:43 AM

Jaguars general manager Gene Smith has given quarterback David Garrard a vote of confidence. "I'm confident in his abilities. I believe we can win with David. Football is a team sport, so you'll only be as good as the guys around you. To compete at the highest level, you need a good quarterback. I feel, as we grow as a team, David will continue to grow as a quarterback. He's got all the physical skills to make all the throws," Smith told Jaguars.com. Jacksonville is 7-7 and Garrard has thrown for 3,210 yards, 13 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season.

Jags GM: We Don't Draft On Marketing

Oct 31, 2014 6:06 AM

Jaguars general manager Gene Smith touched on the possibility of drafting Gators quarterback Tim Tebow this week. Some have suggested that Jacksonville should draft Tebow to help bring fans to the stadium and keep the club in the city. "I've never drafted based off marketing, we have a department for marketing," Smith said. "From my standpoint, we have a system we employ here and it's best available player in the draft. If he's the best available player when we're drafting at whatever point in the draft, he would be a Jaguar. But we'll stay with our system."

Florida Gov. Wants Tebow With Jaguars

Feb 15, 2014 5:49 PM

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist thinks quarterback Tim Tebow could be just what the Jaguars need. Crist said he's spoken with Jacksonville ownership about taking Tebow in next spring's NFL Draft as a means to sell more season tickets and keep the team from moving. Tebow, who grew up in Jacksonville, won the Heisman Trophy in 2007 and led the Gators to a national championship last year.
