Calvin Johnson Becomes Fastest WR To 10,000 Yards

Nov 29, 2014 8:04 PM

Calvin Johnson passed the 10,000 yards receiving mark in just 115th game, becoming the fastest player to accomplish the feat.

Johnson broke the record set by former receiver Torry Holt, who hit 10,000 career receiving yards in 116 games.

"That's big, especially for a receiver," Johnson said. "To be able to do it, in the fashion that we were able to do it and with the help I have from the rest of my teammates, we all share and take part in that.

"It's big."

NFL Evaluating Dominic Raiola's Cut Block On Moore

Nov 25, 2014 11:23 PM

Jim Caldwell said the NFL is looking into Dominic Raiola's cut block on New England Patriots defensive lineman Zach Moore.

Caldwell said he spoke with Raiola, but he kept the nature of their conversation private. Caldwell said the Detroit Lions are not considering punishment for Raiola but would not answer whether Raiola could miss Detroit's game Thursday against Chicago.

Caldwell said he had not heard anything in regard to that type of discipline from the league.

"Game to game it's always different," Caldwell said. "There's always issues and things that you've got to manage and handle. If that does arise, we'll find a way to get around it."

Golden Tate Believes Lions 'Growing' Into Offense

Nov 19, 2014 11:49 AM

The Detroit Lions' offense remains a work in progress, but Golden Tate believes they're growing into it.

“We’re still doing a lot of growing,” Tate said after an event at the Microsoft Store in Troy, Michigan. “We’re still trying to figure out the type of team, of offense that we want to be. We’re learning and the good news is we still have a long ways to go but we’re still sitting 7-3 with a really bright future.

“I think we can stay healthy and stay motivated and keep grinding, it’s all going to work out. We’re still learning and figuring things out.”

Golden Tate Feels Like Strong 2014 Draft Class Impacted Free Agency

Nov 29, 2014 3:08 PM

Golden Tate was surprised to see only mild interest in signing him during his free agency during the offseason.

The Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets and Detroit Lions were the only teams to express interest in Tate.

"I think because we had such a strong draft class, I think we had five or six or seven top receivers in this class," Tate said Friday. "So there's no need to go pay a lot of money when you get a rookie for pennies, I guess, relatively speaking.

"Maybe that's why. But I'm here. I'm wanted here. We're 7-2 and I'm playing decent football."

Tate signed a five-year, $31 million deal with the Lions.

"I'm not going to lie. I thought I would be a hot commodity. As it got closer, I thought I was going to have seven, eight teams on me," Tate said. "Wasn't the case at all, which is OK. All you need is one team to really love you. Same thing in the draft process.

"My presentation here, coach [Joe] Lombardi was super excited and I could definitely see that and I talked to coach [Jim] Caldwell and he seemed super excited and we both have the same goals in mind, to come here and make an impact on this organization and develop a sense of winning consistently, and right now that's what we are. We still have a long way to go and we're still working and grinding it out but sitting at 7-2, that isn't bad."

Ndamukong Suh Not Talking About Future With Lions

Nov 15, 2014 3:18 AM

Ndamukong Suh has had a strong season as he is about to enter free agency.

“I’ve always had fun here playing in Detroit and continue to have it,” Suh said. “I look forward to continue to have fun with this team at all levels, whether that’s with my defensive linemen, whether that’s with the defense, whether that’s with offensive players, it’s always fun, joking and having fun. So being loose, I’ve always been, I’m always going to continue to be. . . .

“It’s obviously great that we’re winning games and being recognized a little bit, not much, for our defensive statistics and things of that nature. But as I said, in weeks past, we still have a long way ahead of us and we’ve still got a lot more work to get done.”
