Morris Says He Has No Issues With Lewis
Even though it may have appeared that the two men had issues last season, Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris says he has no bad blood with Bengals coach Marvin Lewis.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Saturday that Lewis was angry with Tampa Bay for signing rookie wideout Dezmon Briscoe to its practice squad last September, after the Bengals released the 2010 sixth-round pick in hopes he would wind up on their practice squad.
Briscoe chose the Buccaneers over the Bengals because Tampa Bay offered him the rookie minimum of about $325,000, favorable to the roughly $100,000 practice squad contract the Bengals planned to field.
"That's business, this is about the community and the bigger picture," Morris said. "It's not about whether you have a disagreement on the field or whether I like him on game day.
"I wanted to come in for Marvin and be supportive of him because he's always been supportive of me."
Former Employee Accused Of Stealing From T.O.
A former employee of Terrell Owens has been charged in Atlanta with stealing nearly $30,000 from the wide receiver.
The man is accused of using a bank account belonging to Owens to pay rent on a $2,000-a-month apartment in the city's tony Buckhead neighborhood.
Antonio Edwards was charged with felony theft by deception in 13 warrants issued May 13 by a Fulton County judge.
Johnson: Palmer Isn't Cincinnati's Only Problem
Tank Johnson believes that Carson Palmer should retire if he isn't willing to give his all to the team.
With that said, Johnson says that Palmer isn't the only problem the Bengals are dealing with this offseason.
"When we got Chad [Ochocinco] and T.O. coming off their TV circuit right into our training camp, I mean, that just put a big cloud over a bunch of humble guys," Johnson said.
"And I'm not saying anything to take away from Chad and T.O.'s offseason adventures, because, hey, if they want you on TV, be on TV, but it just really clouded a bunch of humble guys."
Dalton Being Handed Job In Cincinnati?
Bengals owner Mike Brown may have inadvertently tipped the team's hand with comments related to Carson Palmer.
Brown has maintained that Cincinnati, which drafted quarterback Andy Dalton in the second round, won't trade Palmer.
"[Palmer is] a very fine player, and we do want him to come back. If he chooses not to, he'd retire. And we would go with Andy Dalton," Brown said.
Does that mean that Dalton wouldn't have to compete for the starting job?
Owner Still Wants Palmer To Remain With Bengals
The Bengals drafted a quarterback with the 35th overall pick in last month's NFL Draft, but owner Mike Brown still wants Carson Palmer to remain with the team.
Palmer has requested that Cincinnati trade him and sources close to the veteran claim he's prepared to retire from the NFL if he isn't dealt.
"We don't plan to trade Carson," Brown said. "He's important to us. He's a very fine player, and we do want him to come back. If he chooses not to, he'd retire. And we would go with Andy Dalton, the younger player we drafted, who's a good prospect.
"Ideally, we'd have both of them. That'd be the best way to go forward. If we don't have Carson, we'll go with Andy."
Raiders, Bears May Be Fits For Ochocinco
Assuming that Chad Ochocinco doesn't return to the Bengals, Jason La Canfora of The NFL Network speculates what teams might be a good fit for the wide receiver.
La Canfora writes that the Raiders, Seahawks, Redskins and Bears could be potential homes for Ochocinco.
Palmer Sells House In Cincinnati
Carson Palmer's house, which was put on the market in late March, took less than two months to find a buyer.
The five-bedroom, two-story property in Indian Hill had an asking price of $2.1 million.
The real estate listing describes Palmer's house "an exceptional home that exudes comfort, character and privacy."
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis has said since the scouting combine that the team was moving on without Palmer after a meeting in early February between the two.
Ochocinco Rides Bull For 1.5 Seconds
Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco backed up his promise to ride a 1,500-pound bull on the Professional Bull Riders circuit Saturday night.
He earned $10,000 for making it out of the chute atop Deja Blu.
The ride lasted 1.5 seconds before Ochocinco was bucked off with no apparent injury.
Ochocinco, who wore a helmet and a standard protective vest, fell 6.5 seconds short of the time needed to win a new Ford truck and to earn the right to rename the bull after Bengals coach Marvin Lewis.
"One and done," he said of his bull-riding career.
Ochocinco Having Second Thoughts About Bull-Riding
Chad Ochocinco, who last week accepted a challenge from Professional Bull Riding chief operating officer Sean Gleason to ride a bull this weekend, sounded like he was having second thoughts in posts to his Twitter account Friday night.
"After seeing those bulls up close, I'm (in trouble) #literally," Ochocinco tweeted, using an expletive.
Ochocinco, who earlier in the lockout had a tryout with Sporting Kansas City of Major League Soccer, will earn $10,000 if he rides a bull Saturday at the Gwinnett Center in suburban Atlanta
NFL Network analyst Warren Sapp asked Ochocinco via Twitter what was going on.
His reply: "Sapp they are huge, fast, quick, powerful and agile in person, big mistake on my part."
Benson Wants To Be Cincinnati's 'Horse'
Cedric Benson, who made headlines for his comments about quarterback Carson Palmer, also commented on his free agent situation.
Benson said that it would hurt the Bengals if Palmer returned to the team next season. Benson likes Palmer personally, but he doesn't think the club can ignore the quarterback's desire to be traded.
"I think I'm deserving of that I just hope a couple teams feel the same way," Benson said of a new deal with the Bengals.
"It would be nice if it would be the Bengals, they drafted a quarterback in the second round and have young receivers, they're going to need a horse in there."
Benson: Trade Carson Palmer
Cedric Benson has nothing against Carson Palmer, but he doesn't think he could return to the Bengals this coming season.
Lewis Would Welcome Palmer Back
Marvin Lewis won't publicly entertain when Carson Palmer might be traded, if at all.
